Default Dehydrator, anyone?

Birthday money is meant to be spent on a splurge, right? So..I'm splurging on an item I've always wanted, but never had $$ for.

That and a canner.

But..I'm really waffling on a dehydrator and wondered if anyone had words of wisdom on the one they have/had and have used.

I'm thinking either a small Excalibur (but then no canner), or a Nesco/Amercian Harvester square model.

I got one a few months ago like this...

I kinda hate it

It definitely does not hold nearly enough in my opinion to make those hours and hours worthwhile. I hope you are able to get a big nice Excalibur one.

If you're getting one after waiting for so long, go for a good one. You know that once you get it, you won't be replacing it for quite a while. Go for the Excalibur. It comes with the fan to distribute the air evenly, has timer and temp control. If anyone is planning on giving you the gift, ask for Amazon GC. That's what my kids do when they want big ticket item! LOL

I have one like Tanyia's from years ago. I think we used it over one year, and then gave up. The length of time to run the dryer to get those crisp apple chips, and so on, is unreal. Of course, at that time we did live in a humid climate, so maybe it is time to dust it off and try again.

Otherwise, I'm thinking of some kind of an altered art piece...?
