camera phone favorites...
I used to be pretty happy with the photos i took with my iphone 4s. but any more it seems that every picture I take is just ugly [ie: reallyreally grainy]. even photos outdoors tend to be poor quality... of course, sometimes, if all of the planets are in perfect alignment, I get lucky and end up with a terrific shot. but I've grown weary of those odds.
so I'm looking to upgrade/change my phone and am hoping some folks will chime in and offer some suggestions. I'm not tied to getting another iphone [though am wondering if all of my apps would transfer to an android, or if I'd have to repurchase them] and don't have too many preferences... I'd really just like to get something that will take a decent photo without having to cast a spell and cross my fingers. soooo.... what are you using? do you love it, hate it? do tell!

The apps don't transfer to Android as far as I was able to figure (hubby always has had an Android and i have had apples). I like my new 6 but there are androids that have better cameras than the apples. I went with apple because it works slick with my mac desktop and that I was familiar with how to use it. I hate using my hubby's phone and texting on his is almost impossible for me (and him as deciphering his texts are near impossible some days).

I just went from an iphone 4s to a samsung galaxy 6 and am VERY happy. It was a long decision process for me with lots of comparing between samsung S6 / LG G4 / iphone 6s and ultimately went with the samsung. I don't think you can go wrong with any of those in terms of the cameras! I think they're all good
you will have to repurchase because iphone apps and android are different This was a good review I looked at: http://www.phonearena.com/news/iPhon...-phone_id74404 It really sort of comes down to personal preferences with photos too! There are some apps that aren't available for android that are more readily available for iphone because developing for ios is a lot easier than android I guess. |

I love my Samsung Galaxy S6 Active. (It's basically the same as the Galaxy S6, but it's slightly bigger with longer battery life and is water and drop resistant.) The camera is my #1 priority when shopping for a phone, and I'm happy with it. (Even so, I'd never consider giving up my mirrorless and having only the phone. It doesn't freeze action or compensate for wiggly kids nearly as well as shooting in manual on my real camera. YMMV.)
Apps are where you might take a hit switching to Android. I think there are a lot more apps for Apple. Making an app compatible with a very small number of iphones is much easier than making it compatible with hundreds of different Android phones. Even when an app exists for both Apple and Android, there are times when the Android version can't do everything the Apple version can. That said, most of the things I'd want to use my phone for I can. But I've been waiting a year and a half for the Project Life App (finally coming in Feb!) because there's just nothing else like it. I also haven't been able to find an Android app that will let me put a png file over a photo, though there's at least 1 that can do it for the iphone. So before you switch, visit Google Play (our itunes) to see which of your must have apps exist for Android and read reviews to see if they can do everything the Apple versions can.

I think you would be majorly impressed with the upgrade from the 4s to the 6s! I have the 5s and it was WAY better than the 4 for pictures... I'm trying to wait until the next one comes out to upgrade, but I'm dying for a better camera.

Same here, I have an iphone 4s before changing to xperia Z2. i miss some of the apps i have on my iphone like pictapgo, collect, pl, camera+ and others that aren't available in android (although thankfully pl would be available in android by Feb). But the quality of the photos using my z2 is better than my 4s and I'm happy about it. The reason I chose an android is the flexibility of the storage as well as the camera concept.

I noticed a better quality changing from 5s to 6s. Now, I mostly use iPhone to take pictures.

yes - the 6s has a way better camera than even the 6... according to my pod listening mac obsessed hubby... We almost upgraded just for the camera, but I decided to wait... since my phone is pretty much what I use for photos, I have been pleased... but I've heard amazing things about galaxy phones.
And to the app question - have to re buy all those apps - my hubby develops apps and he said that its easy to develop IOS apps and a lot more testing/approval needed to get into the itunes store. Andriod is all over the map and too many variables to have to figure in when you program in that language due to the number of different phone styles, no set standards, platform to program apps is buggy, etc.

My son has the Galaxy Note something-or-other and the pic quality is AMAZING. Honestly, I think it's a little better than my Nikon, but that could be because mine needs some repairs. I'm also still using the iPhone 4S and it drives my kids BANANAS that I've been using the same phone for all these years. That could partly be because I complain all the time because it shuts down for no reason and the battery life sucks. I finally decided it's time to upgrade to the 6 because I was messing around with my friend's phone and it's really great. I wouldn't necessarily have a problem switching to an android, but if I don't have to relearn everything that would be better, lol!

I used to have the Samsung Galaxy S4, but I'm switching to the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact next week. Sony has amazing cameras, this one has 23mp and even the front camera has 5mp. I'm currently using my sisters old Xperia Z2, since my Samsung died on me, and that oldie even takes better pics than my Samsung did.

I went from the 4 to the 5s and it was a HUGE upgrade camera wise. I'm holding out for this fall's release but I'm also wishing I had the camera that the 6s has already :P

I noticed a huge difference between the camera on my 4s and my husband's 5 - going from a 4s to a 6s would be a huge difference. I just upgraded to the 6s in January and I love that the front selfie cam is now 5mp. It actually takes scrappable photos now that aren't super tiny.
