Default Blurring a background?

can you guys tell me how to blur my background in a photo in PS? I am sure I have done it before, just don't remember how

Angie, what I do is use the lasso and go around with a feather of about 50 (of course this depends on the size/quality of the picture, could be more or less, depending on what I want to achieve. Just remember to do the feather settings BEFORE you lasso). I invert the selection, then do filter>blur>gaussian blur on the new selected area. You can adjust those settings to whatever you'd like.

I hope that makes sense and is somewhat helpful. I'm so bad at explaining things! LOL
