Default Is this worth $900??

I am on a bidding battle for it on craigslist and right now the final bid is $900 but it is more than I was hoping to pay for a dining set. However, I LOOOOOOOVE it, like I want to marry it! So what do you think? Would you pay that much for it? I'm sure that brand new at a store (and the seller says it's never been used) it would cost a lot more.

Tell me what you think pretty pretty please....

I would. I bet the chairs alone were like $300 a piece... I don't know how much higher I would go though. Of course, that's probably because I'm a total cheapie. lol.

Yeah.....I would think new in store that would be the cost for the chairs alone. Sounds like a deal to me.

I have one similar but not as nice and paid almost 900 for it, so yes, I'd say its worth it. That is fabulous!

My set is not even close to being as nice as that one and I paid 1,500 for it. $900 for that set is a great price. I'd buy it!

Can you find out who manufactured it and look at the retail price?

yep- I would say $900 is a good deal providing that there is no damage to the table and chairs to begin with.

I would probably pay $900 easy too especially if it comes with all the chairs...most sets only come with 4 chairs and you have to pay extra for 2 more chairs...but like Sheri, I woudl see if they could tell you who the manufacturer is and see if you can look it up

I would also see how much it was first in store... but either way if you really want it then it is worth whatever right?

I always check retail prices first but it does appear to be a good quality. The style is lovely. I really want a new dining set. The reality is that I'll probably just refinish what I have though. LOL

I would definitely pay that much, provided I had seen it and made sure it was in great condition. I would think it would be difficult to find something that nice for under $1000.

Thanks ladies!! Well I won the bid!! I'm getting it but she doesn't know what kind of wood it is and she said she bought it at Linders Furniture (never heard of them). She said she paid $1800 but I wonder if she got it on sale or something cause even that price seems hard to believe.

I have a beautiful dining set that I paid 3100 for, in 2010. I love my set! However, one of the reasons I was willing to pay the price is because it's super heavy... even the chairs are heavy and sturdy. I hate light weight chairs, so I fell in love with the style and then when I realized how heavy it all was, I loved it even more.

I'd pay 900 in a heartbeat for a set I love. Glad you won it! I like the lines of that set, it's really pretty!

Thanks so much for all the input everyone! OK here's what I know:

-She doesn't know what kind of wood it is : /
-She paid about $1800 for it originally she thinks about 3 1/2 years ago
-The manufacturer is Universal Furniture, the same that makes the Paula Deen collection (eeekkk!!!), which by the way, this set reminds me of the stuff she sells which I adore!
-She said it's been sitting there in the dining room at her house but it has never ever been used. Wow!
-It comes with 2 leaves and a buffet for a total price of $1025.

OK so what do you think? Still a good buy?

Yay for winning it. If it's all massive wood, it's probably worth it. Though I never bought chairs without sitting on them first (I have short legs and am therefore not comfortable on any kind of chair), so I have NO clue what prices are on the second hand market.
