Default books for boys

Okay guys - I need a new book series for my son to start. He's almost 9 and in the third grade. He's a great reader and likes anything from sports themes to mystery and adventure. But he rarely likes reading single books - he prefers a series. So...hit me!!

My son loved the Screech Owls series by Roy MacGregor, it was about a PeeWee hockey team and the adventures they got up to not always hockey. Quite a few books in this series.

Blake loves anything by Rick Riordan. He's also been reading Captain Underpants and Stilton Gerimino (spelling?) books. Harry Potter is also a fave.

Mine likes the Ballpark Mysteries Series (baseball), the Baseball Card Mysteries ("Babe & Me", "Honus & Me"...by Dan Gutman)), and the "I Survived" series.

We love James' Patterson's kids' books, like Treasure Hunters, Middle School: the Worst Years of My Life & I Funny. They're all series, and they are seriously fun! But they might be above his reading level; I read them to my boys, though Jack read several of them on his own in 4th & 5th grade.

My 3rd grader reads a series called Warriors, that is about cats who live in clans, and although I find it hard to care about cats, he loves the action & adventure in this series.

Chris Grabenstein has some really good books, too, like Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library & Mr. Lemoncello's Library Olympics.

The Horrible Harry books are an easy read and might be too easy, but my boys both loved them. My Wacky School series is really fun & easy to read as well.

Jake's (age 9, forth grade) favorite series are:
Geromino Stilton - his favorite, especially the graphic novel ones, we have almost all of them
Hank Zipler
Hank the Cowdog
Magic School Bus chapter books
Horrible History and Horrible Science
Diary of a Wimpy Kid (which I hate... )

My son is in the deep throes of a Diary of a Wimpy Kid obsession. I think next he wants to read the Boxcar Children books. I would love for him to read Harry Potter but I don't think he's QUITE there yet. I think he'd also like the Goosebumps books so we might check those out at some point, too. He's not CRAZY about reading, so I'd like to find a series that really hooks him in. Not sure how helpful this random post was. :P

Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Captain Underpants are favorites here too.

Cooper also loves the Diary of a Minecraft Zombie, LOL!

Diary of a Wimpy Kid (just bought Rachel the new one, which released today, and she's halfway through it)
Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series (might be a bit advanced for a 3rd grader, depending on his reading level)
I Survived
39 Clues
Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library & Mr. Lemoncello's Library Olympics (shoot, I enjoy these too)
Geronimo Stilton (several series)
The Mysterious Benedict Society (there are several books in this series now)
James Patterson's Middle School series (Rachel has read them and really likes them; I've only seen the movie, but it was very good)

There's a popular chapter book series in Australia by Andy Griffiths at the moment called the "Treehouse" series (the first book is called The 13 Storey Treehouse). There's about 6 or 7 in the series currently if I remember rightly? Worth looking up if you can find them overseas - or try The Book Depository!

My youngest loves this new series we found at the library called The Ninja Librarians: The Accidental Keyhand by Jen Swann Downey. There are two in the series so far but I am hoping for more.

My son loves fantasy and humorous books mostly. Both he and my daughter love to read so I am just going to list the major favourites around here
Anything by rick riordian
The I survived series
Wings of fire series (about dragons)
39 clues
Garry Paulson books (adventure stories with lots of young boy/teen characters)
Harry Potter
Gordon korman books
Narnia series

Tommy also really enjoyed a lot of the old classics like Swiss family robinson, Tom Sawyer, huck Finn, call of the wild, treasure island. The best part of those books is that the digital editions are often free on the classics. Tom enjoyed the stories but really loved then understanding the references to these book in newer books and movies.

My son's current favorite author is Suzanne Selfors. I saw her speak at a writer's conference not too long ago, and I picked up some of her books there. My son LOVED every one of them and has breezed through two entire series now: The Imaginary Veterinary series and the Smells Like Dog series. The first is about a pair of kids who work as apprentices for a veterinarian who takes care of magical creatures (dragons, fairies, leprechauns, etc.), and the second is about a boy and his dog who travel the world hunting for treasure. These are fun, hilarious, action-packed books. They remind me a lot of Roald Dahl (who was my son's previous favorite author). I loved reading them together with him.

Anything funny for Lucas. It's so frustrating every night that we have to fight about reading... he reads fine he just would like to be doing anything but. sigh.

My kids liked the Ranger's Apprentice series and absolutely loved the Deltora books at that age.

Geronimo Stilton
The Amazing World of Fudge
Septimus Heap (My son listened to them on audio book, but loved them!)
City of Ember series (I found the 3rd book unnecessary and boring, but the 4th was back to good again)

I asked my son for suggestions and he said "I like all of them". He loves books!
