But how does the i turn into a u for diguhscrap? That's like, mind boggling to me, LOL!

Totally not trying to be mean or anything (pregnancy hormones have me paranoid I'm a b*tch all the time, lol), I just truly don't understand that, lol.

Do you originate from the NY metro area? I live on Long Island and I agree about ahhh-sum. It's aw-sum.

And I say Di-gee

Yea, I'm from the Hudson Valley ("upstate" to you, you live in the city right? LOL!). I grew up in the town where the giant outlet mall is (the woodbury commons).

Ok, after some research into my own speech LOL, digital is 'di-juh-tul', but digi is 'di-gee'. BUT I just realized if I am saying 'digiscrapping' I pronouncing it 'di-juh-scrapping'. LOL I look like an idiot because now I'm walking trying to listen to my own pronunciation.

and for the record, i do not say missouruh, or warsh, or any of those things....

I might have to de-friend anyone who says "warsh" LOLOL!!!

I mean, I can understand different accents pronounce things differently. I get that. But adding/subtracting letters to words, or changing the sound of a letter for no reason TOTALLY bug me, lol.

i think a lot of people say did-gee actually. most i've met IRL do anyway.

the only thing i know i say wrong is milk. i say melk...but i think that's just more of an illinois/chicago thing than a mispronunciation. i know it's milk, i just can't SAY milk. LOL

LOL, me, too, Trish. I could go on and on about people pronouncing things wrong in my area. Most people on my side of the state (the east side-St. Louis area), say Missour-ee, while people on the west side of the state (Kansas City) say Missouruh. Ugh! Drives me crazy.

Around here, you're looked at weird if you DON'T say warsh. It makes me kinda shudder. My MIL is the worst...warsh, zink, Wal-Mark, orl (for oil)...I get looks all the time for actually have correct pronunciation.

And for the record, Laura, I could see how someone would say dig-uh-scrap. I guess

LOL my husband got chewed out a bit when driving through Arkansas City, KS...apparently they pronounce their town's name 'Ar-KANSAS' City, and he pronounced it 'ar-can-saw'. Apparently they were very defensive about their town name...kind of funny because I'd never even heard of it until he told me about the incident.

lol When we went to Disney World a few years ago I totally got into an argument with a man because he kept trying to tell me that the Mississippi River is pronounced Miss-iss-sip-pee, and I kept telling him no, it's Miss-uh-sip-ee or Miss-sip-ee. John eventually pulled me away from the guy and told me to get over it.

Just so you know, di-juh makes WAY more sense than di-guh. I was saying di-guh, like di-gun without the n. That was half of my confusion, lol.

your welcome but now that I read the thread (I do that a lot...respond and THEN go back and read the whole thing ) I can see where someone would say di-guh....as in a shorter form of di-guh-tal!! If you look at it that way....di-guh would be more phonetically correct then di-gee

No, seriously, is it just the southern pronunciation versus the northern one? Kinda like saying "SprIte" instead of "Spright"? Because I don't do that anymore. I say it the ri*eet way now. ; )
