Default Qotd: If you had the spend the next year in a place that is not your home... (10/11)

If you had the spend the next year in a place that is not your home, which place would you choose? And why?

I'm not sure where I'd want to live. I've lived in Belgium my whole life and I love it here.
The weather isn't great most of the time (too much rain, sometimes too hot in summer), but it's "home".
But if I had to chose, I think I would choose Austria. I've been there twice this summer and I fell in love with Vienna (the capital) and I love it's mountains and beautiful nature. So I wouldn't mind living there for a year.

Which place would you choose?

I have always wanted to go to Seattle.....living there or in the area for a year would sound great to me. Same weather (I am not a summer person so I'd feel right at home there) and from what my husband told me.......it's just gorgeous and the people are amazing. I guess being a huge Pearl Jam fan kinda is a big part of it as well

I'd go to Thailand, to Samui island - because it's protected from earth disasters, lovely people, amazing nature and fast internet. But I d travel anyway from time to time to Europe because I can't live without seeing winter, autumn and spring.

Ireland, had such an amazing time there this summer and I would stay in the Killarney area.

This question hurts my brain. Being a military family moving every 1-3 years makes me dread this question. This will be the first duty station we will be at for 3.5 years and I’m looking forward to not moving next year like we were dreading. I personally don’t mind moving, I like seeing new places. It’s the kids that it’s the hardest on, with pulling them out of school, uprooting them from friends and a location they finally feel safe. Every move has become harder and harder for them.

So if I could do a hypothetical, no kids, not actually moving duty stations, etc., I would go back to Washington DC for the year. There is so much to see and do there. I loved living there at a previous duty station and miss it!

Carrie, of course you can bring your peeps!

Wendy, that must be so hard, seeing your kids having a hard time because of all the moving.

I love reading everyone's choices!

That's a tough question because there are so many places! Sardinia though, hands down, Mediterranean beaches, warm weather, ancient ruins, amazing food & bright colorful cities with warm hospitable people!

Nashville, TN or Fort Collins, CO would be more practical choices...

but I'd love to live in Ireland... or Prince Edward Island... or Australia... or Vancouver for a year!

I think I'd like to try big city living... NYC or London... since I've only lived in smaller towns/cities... the whole only buying food for the day/couple of days boggles my mind. I'm a stockpiler because of winter and because I really hate shopping, haha.

I've lived near Washington, DC since right after college graduation, 20 years ago. But the rest of my family is still in Connecticut and New York, where I grew up. If I could move for a year, I'd go back there. I don't spend enough time there to truly know the newer additions to the family (spouses and kids); seeing them for a weekend here and there just isn't the same as being part of their lives day in and day out. I'd like to be able to help my parents more, do some of the practical stuff my brother's family needs as his wife goes through chemo, help my kids develop deeper relationships with their cousins, etc.

I wanted to try to live in New Orleans, or Rhode Island. Those places are in the books I've read and movies/tv series I've watched. Although I've been to Rhode Island two weeks ago, it's not enough that I've stayed there for a day only. The place was amazing, historical, very clean, beautiful road, with an awesome view of the water. I'm not a fan of the big city, I've always wanted to live in the province or some place suburban.

The more practical for me right now would be moving back to Hamilton, NZ - I lived there for 3 months last year and while things didn't go well at the time, if the right job came up for at least a year I would hands down move back there as long as I was able to live on my own.

The slightly more unrealistic for now answer would be moving to Vancouver Canada

I'd either want to move to Australia (one of my besties lives there) or Italy (it just looks like a gorgeous country I would never tire of exploring).

I would love to live somewhere in Europe for a year. I have only been to Rome, Naples & Prague (and Munich airport), but I think it would be really cool to live there and just do tons of traveling.
