Default Flower Girl Help

So, Natalie was asked to be a flowergirl at DH's cousin's wedding. It's on Feb 14. I have NO idea what I'm doing, lmao.

I have to find her a dress, without knowing what the brides or bridesmaids dresses look like - all I know is that the colors are shades of purple (she prefers a dark purple, but one bridesmaid is wearing a lilac color because they couldn't find 2 dresses the same because the girls are SUCH different body types). The guys are wearing black suits with ties that have all sorts of shades of purple in them and the flowers are going to be shades of purple.

THAT is all I know, lol. Should I just get her a simple white dress? I don't have a lot of money to spend, but my eye keeps being drawn to these big white dresses with the material "gathered"...they're GORGEOUS, but I think the brides dress is simple. And I'm sure that if I have picked it out, it'll be expensive, lol.

My MIL is going to take Natalie and I into the city in early Feb and see if we can find her something (MIL is leaving for Mexico today and won't be back for a week). I wanted to invite the bride along, but we were going to make a day of it (take Natalie to an amusement park or something) and so she probably won't want to be with us ALL day - though maybe her mom will come with her and meet us at a certain time to look at dresses?

UGH, I don't know. Then there's the question of her hair. I can't do hair - at all. My hair is always in a ponytail and Natalie's is straight because I CAN'T do hair, lol. My SIL is a hairdresser and *might* be coming, so she *might* be able to do Natalie's hair...otherwise, I'm pretty much SOL because it's Valentine's Day and a Saturday, so there's more than one wedding going on. The bride's mom said that her sister is coming to do the girls' hair so Natalie can get it done by her - but I just don't know! Any suggestions of what to do with hair that is about chin length and very fine? I don't know if it will hold curls well - but I DO know that she'll freak out the whole time her head is being touched.

I'll have to buy her shoes...and probably some accessory for her hair, too...right? This is going to be expensive, lol. Will I be required to buy a wedding gift? Hahaha...

LOL, Bree! Don't worry!!! I say go for a simple dress for her (floor length) in either white or a light lavendar. If her dress is floor length, you may be able to get away with shoes you already have. I had 3 flower girls and they all just wore their hair natural...but if you want something a little special, let the person who's going to be there do it. Just try not to strees...have fun and think of the amazing photos you'll get!

Oh--see if the bride can send you pics of her dress and the bridesmaid dresses...that could help you!

I would do just a white dress and maybe a sash in a shade of purple that matches one of the bridesmaid dresses..as for her hair..why not leave it down and just do a ribbon headband in purple..simple and still pretty

You might want to ask the bride if white is okay. Some brides like to be the only one in white!

Yep. I didn't let my flower girl wear white. Neither did my brother & SIL or my best friend.

My BIL and new SIL choose white for all four of their flower girls. I thought it was strange. I know if it had been me, I would have been the only one in white.

What about something like this with a deep purple sash instead of black:
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php...ng_id=19377373

Or this one:
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php...ng_id=19373452

From the same seller as above:

Or this:

This one?

I'd do a lilac floor length, and just put a ribbon in her hair. Or, do a white dress with perhaps a lilac/purple ribbon on the waist and one in her hair too.

That's a hard decision, and you don't have much time to figure it out! Ack!

Our wedding colors were purple and silver. My flower girl wore a purple dress and had a silver ribbon headband with purple flowers on it.

When Abby was the flower girl in May for my cousin's wedding, she wore a light pink dress with a cream headband with pink flowers on it.

I wouldn't get white unless you clear it with the bride first.

I found a couple on eBay...

http://cgi.ebay.ca/NEW-SATIN-PAGEANT...3A1|240%3A1318

http://cgi.ebay.ca/NEW-FLOWER-GIRL-D...3A1|240%3A1318

Though I absolutely WISH I could find this one in a purple:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/NEW-FLOWER-WEDDIN...3A1|240%3A1318

Do you think buying on eBay is risking it? It needs to be shipped to Canada - which can take usually 10 business days...

Oh and forgot to say that I'm pretty sure white is OK...I talked to the brides' mom the other day and she told me that they almost bought a dress before they'd asked Natalie to be a flowergirl - it was on sale for $25 and was even in her size (but they didn't know for sure what her size was, or that we'd say yes). Of course, when they went to pick it up a few days later, it was gone, lol.

Bree, convo the people on Ebay and ask about overnighting & how much it would cost... wouldn't hurt! The dresses are super cheap, and the USPS shipping is only $9.99 which is decent... maybe they'd give you a good price on the faster shipping too!

Oh, and I'd probably go with a white dress... stay away from a solid purple dress. There are too many shades, and if you are buying without a swatch, it could make for some mighty interesting wedding photos, lol!

When Arizona got married, she said she was having dark purple. So I expected like an eggplant color. When we got there, it was more like a wine color... Everybody has a different idea of purples, so I'd just not go there at all (unless its small like on a sash).

Also, you could ask them if they have the one you really want in purple possibly not listed!

Bree...both of my girls were in my sister's wedding last September....I know what a pain this can be...believe it or not, we got their dressed from Target online. Not only does Target online carry a full line of bridal dresses and such, we were able to find leftover Easter ones. We paid $10 for each dress. We picked up shoes at Marshall's, Nat wore her hair braded, without any decoration. Kiki's is too short for that, so she wore a simple bow clip that I bought that day at Target.

I just looked quickly and found you this dress...it's only $24.99!!!
http://www.target.com/Isaac-Mizrahi-...%20girl&page=1

Hope this helps!

Target is only in the US, though...I'm in Canada. I will look in a few second-hand stores here though...I got Natalie a dress that was obviously a flowergirl dress a couple years ago for only $30 - too bad it doesn't fit anymore, lmao!!

Bree, can you do a french braid? You could do that with a purple ribbon braided in and tuck some baby's breath in it.

I like the idea of the white dress with the purple sash but I have to say I didn't have my flowergirl wear white either.

Thanks everyone for your help!! The shop on eBay emailed me back and they have an actual store and faster shipping choices, so I ordered her dress tonight...I got this one:

And I bought her a little fur bolero too:

I talked to the bride tonight and she asked that Natalie wear white and not lilac, so that answered that question for me...and she told me that she'll be carrying a white fur muff with flowers on it, so that's why I got the jacket. Make it all matchy-matchy, lol.

And I paid a little extra to have it shipped super fast...I should have it in 3 days!

I'm going to play with Natalie's hair and see if it will take curl, or we might just go with a french braid...haven't decided but we have a little bit of time.

That dress is so cute! She's going to look adorable.

Here are a couple blogs that I visit when I need a cute style for my daughter's hair. They show you style it step by step, which I love.
