bread...
ok peeps, how/where do you store your bread?? this is my current kitchen organization dilemna - I just don't know what to do with it! We have lots of bread around here because with the boys and lunches and stuf we go through it fast, but i never know what to do with it, currently I start by sort of piling it in the cupboard and then i just end up putting it on the counter because the cupboard situation gets out of control! I just feel like I'm wasting tons of space in the cupboard and constantly dealing with bread chaos...
I'd love some ideas! i tried to search "bread storage" on pinterest, but I'm getting nothing! Maybe there is some other term I should be using?? This seems like a lot of drama over bread doesn't it??... |

I have a basket on my counter (in the corner) that I kept the bread in until we got a cat. He started ripping the bags open and eating the bread, so now I keep it in the pantry closet. I liked it in the basket though.

I have a basket in the corner on our counter where the bread goes. I usually have a spare loaf in the freezer, too. I have a friend who keeps hers in the microwave... LOL. She hardly uses it, so it made sense to her. Growing up, our neighbors kept their bread in one of those hanging tiered fruit baskets above the counter.

I have all my bread in the freezer too, except the loaf currently in use. That loaf stays on top of my fridge in the bread box.

We don't eat much bread - about a loaf a month, if that. And I make my own so it doesn't have preservatives and it goes bad fast if left out, so it stays in the fridge. If I make more than 1 loaf at a time the extra loaf goes in the freezer.

I throw out so much bread from it going bad. Not the sliced grocery store bread, that stays for a long time, but anything I buy at the bakery goes bad quickly.
My mom always kept bread in the fridge, MIL always kept it in a drawer. Somewhere along the way I started keeping ours in a basket on the counter. But it goes bad at some point. I should go back to keeping it in the fridge. |

We go through a lot of bread too because of the kids' lunches, etc. I try to keep it in the pantry, but inevitably, I end up with a load and a half out on the raised bar of our counters. I don't like it there because it looks cluttery. But, we just use it so much, it always happens. So, I understand what you're going through, Shawna, and I'm no help at all. Lol.

We have something like this

we store it in the freezer and thaw a couple pieces in the microwave for 15 seconds whenever we are making a sandwich.

we, too, don't eat much bread... well, only sprout bread, now... but most of the time it's in the freezer. If kiddo goes through a bread phase (he is a bit of a carb addict)... I put the in progress love on top of the toaster which is in the corner.

The extra stays in the freezer. The current 3 loaves are on the breakfast bar that we don't use.

in the fridge! Though since we go thru bread so fast I was thinking I could start making my own - we'll see if I do that though!

We keep it in the fridge because it stays fresh longer. My parents keep it in a drawer in the kitchen.

Mine just sits on the counter - and just one loaf at a time, with extras in the freezer. Although if we have bread, buns, bagels, etc all out at the same time, it does get cluttered. I like the basket idea!
I make my bread - 4 loaves/week! How do so many of you not use bread? LOL

Well with our family of 7 a loaf of bread usually only lasts one day!!! But this is how I store all my bread........on grocery day it all (but one loaf) goes down stairs in our huge chest freezer and then one loaf goes in a :"loaf container" type thing....it stands up right and only takes up a small space. I found it YEARS AGO (seriously like 11 years ago) at Aldi's and it has been through the war and looks so beat up but I can't find another one like it!!! So I keep it and deal with it....I'm gonna look online to see if I can find a picture if not I'll resort to sharing a photo of our poor thing!!!
Well there was only one little tiny one so here is a photo of mine!!! You can see that it doesn't take up hardly any space at all and when we get to the place where there is only a few slices left I grab a loaf from the freezer and it sits nicely on top of it just waiting to replace the empty bag!!!

We keep one loaf out and the rest in the freezer. The one we have goes in our pantry, but we have a pretty big pantry.

we keep ours in the fridge, too ... we don't eat a lot of it so it lasts longer that way. and we toast it whenever we eat it (i even toast it before making a sandwich, i don't like soft bread LOL) - so we don't have a problem w/ it being cold.

maybe the basket idea is what will work best for us, unless there is a spare drawer in the new place because i think that would work too.
with the boys loving bread so much it is like not just one loaf for us, we have bagels and certain different breads for toast and different sandwiches and what not... probably 4 different types at once, although we pretty much NEVER have it go bad because of the bread wolves filling my house LOL... the fridge is way too full around here, and the freezer too, although in the new house we will have a second fridge/freezer downstairs, so maybe that will be helpful.... thanks ladies - i needed to hear some more options than just piles of bread everywhere!! |
