Oh, that was fun to watch, Lydia! I love watching the cast interviews on PBS, too. I don't want it to end this week

LOVED the ending and am now in Downton Abbey withdrawal until the 3rd series starts!

Love British period drama: Upstairs, Downstairs; North and South (Richard Armitage!); Jane Austen (there are so many wonderful movies and mini-series based on her books); the Tudors.

Looks like it will be Dicken's "The Old Curiosity Shop" with Derek Jacobi on PBS Masterpiece Classic next week.

What will everyone be watching until the third series finally arrives?

Loved it! I'm wondering what will happen in the next season though. I can't think of any major events in history in the 20's until the stock market crashes in 1929. We've been through the Titanic and World War I. I was really happy with how they tied up the story lines for us, and I really loved Violet last night.

Ooooh - Last night was so GOOD! I am super excited for the next season . . . wish we didn't have to wait. I want to watch Upstairs, Downstairs. So, maybe that will keep me occupied. I'll have to check out some of those others that origami listed.

"North and South" is on Netflix streaming!

I would love to hear what others recommend!

Upstairs, Downstairs is super short. I think only 4 episodes. It's been a while since I've watched it, but I remember it being very short series. I'll be checking out the others that Origami listed too!

I think the 2011 version of Upstairs, Downstairs has only 4 episodes as it was a short miniseries. I think it's on Amazon for streaming.

The original 1970s version of the show had about 4 or 5 seasons, I think. One season is on Netflix for streaming and you can rent the discs for the other seasons. If you like (love!) Downton Abbey, it definitely has its roots in the Upstairs, Downstairs series.

The last 5 minutes of it was just beautiful, wasn't it? I bet it's somewhere on YouTube to watch it over and over till next season comes around!

I was so sad to see this season end. Man I love this show! THE BEST Lady Grantham line was in that last episode, plus the last 5 minutes...sigh.

In a recent interview by the writer/creator , Julian Fellowes, here's info on why he chose this time period:

JF: One of the reasons we chose 1912 is that the world was seemingly – I say, seemingly – very serene. In fact, there were all sorts of issues — women’s rights, workers’ rights, and across Europe, democracy and the legitimacy of monarchy – all pulsing away. But they hadn’t really broken the surface in a lot of people’s minds and of course it was all going to go up in flames two years later. So by starting it in 1912, it meant that we could have that post-Edwardian serenity, followed by the first World War, followed by the ’20s, a time of immense social change. You had the first votes being given – not to all women, but at least to some women – in 1919, and you have union activity, you have the Russian Revolution, you have all sorts of troubles going on across Europe. And that gave us right there, three series where each would have a very different mood. Which was rather an attractive idea, really

I just finished watching season 1 on Netflix streaming last week. I think I watched the whole season in 3-4 days and was soooo sad that I'd have to wait until December/January for season 2 to be available. Then I checked at the library and they have season 2!! I picked up disc 1 yesterday and requested discs 2 & 3. Woohoo!!

Thanks for the recommendation, because this is not a show I would have even considered watching - or even known about - on my own.

This combination (Maggie Smith/Shirley MacLaine) is going to be a hoot. I watched some of the Jimmy Fallon spoofs but all it did was make me want the real show to be on so I had to stop watching.

I started watching on Netflix a few weeks ago- got through all of season 1 and 2 in matter of a few days. Wasn't expecting it to be quite so good (even though I typically enjoy "period prices" whether they're based on fact or historical yet fictional dramas)

I may rewatch this season just to fill the void.
