Default When editing photos

Do you look at just your photo as you are editing it, or do you keep the original up as well so you can see the change?

I keep the before and after view open on Lightroom as I work.

I do most of my editing in Aperture. I don't have a direct comparison as I'm editing, but I can just click on a little button and it shows me the original, so I can just kind of toggle the edits on and off if I want to see the difference.

I do most photo editing in PS and I keep up all versions as I go along adjusting. I just stack them side by side to see what I like and dislike.

I don't compare as a I go, but I always preserve a copy of the original for future use.

I use radlab for editing photos - and they have an option to see just the before, the after, split and compare. I love it Before using radlab - I would have the original and duplicate right next to each other so I could compare the differences.

I tend to stick to basic editing, like fixing brightness and contrast or removing a color cast. The actions I use place most edits on their own layers, so I can toggle the layers on and off to compare. I also keep the original.

Sometimes when I edit a single or two photos, I'd like to see the before and after. But when I'm editing many photos and I already know what I'd like them to be, I skip the before look. Sometimes I save a copy, sometimes I don't.

I never look at the before and after LOL! I do the majority of my editing in LR with just the basics and then when I scrap I use my actions and such for the photos I want to scrap with in CS....

I mostly edit in ACR on RAWs so I always have a "before" to go back to. I do basic edits there and do only clean edits, then I bring into PS for a slight change/pop or conversion to b&w and then save as jpeg. If I were to use actions I would save the layered versions and play with them a bunch. But I don't like most actions and am happy with my edits now. It took me a while, and a photography course on finding my style to get to this point though.

Yes...use it on everything!

I only compare photos if I'm working on a Polaroid (sometimes 35mm) bc I'm trying not to deviate too much from original

LOL i'm like Angie, I never thought to look at the before and after. I think even the littlest edit is welcome and better than my original

I always save the original version: there are always new ways to reinterpret an image. And it does help me a lot to compare the original to the modified version.

I save the original and just make a new copy with the edited version.
