I'm really struggling finding wholesome books for Jake to read... I need them to be no girlfriend/kissing/hand holding - he is sooo girl crazy as it is and he it's getting him into trouble when he tries this out on his friends that are girls. He has a very sensitive heart, so no animals can be hurt or killed. He doesn't like fantasy or sci-fi.
He is into history (he has pretty much read all the "who was" series), sports, science, building things, etc. His favorite books are Geremino Stillon. He loved Wimpy kid - but we had attitude and the girl stuff... it's bad enough that he is mimicking girl stuff from the Peanut's comics. |

At that age my son loved the Titanic trilogy (historical fiction). You'll likely want to preread. I don't remember any animals dying, but this is a story about the Titanic.
![]() If he likes history, he might enjoy the "I Survived..." series written for his age range. Again, you'll want to preread. ![]() For sports history, check out Dan Gutman's Baseball Card Adventure stories. Honus and Me is one example. ![]() I'll let you know if I think of any others. Has he watched the movie? Once my 11 yr old saw the movie, she was so excited to read the books.

Have you heard of the Rush Revere books? I've heard from some friends that their history loving boys enjoyed them: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...ds=rush+revere

Other suggestions:
The Borrowers Caddie Woodlawn D'Aulaire's books: Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin The Jungle Book (Rudyard Kipling) Call it Courage (my son LOVED this book) Pippi Longstocking Maniac Magee Roald Dahl stuff - Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator (not sure if these are too 'fantasy' for him) |

My son is 8 (almost 9) and this summer he read The Imaginary Veterinary series and just loved it. I'm sad that there aren't anymore books left for him to read in the series because he loved them!

Jack, who's 13, just started this series, and by the time he finished the first, he went ahead and checked out the next four, lol. Apparently he really likes them.

Rebecca, did you ever find some series he likes?
My boys love the WIngfeather Series by Andrew Peterson; the first ones starts off a little slow, but by the end, you're just like, 'This is the greatest story ever told.' We read the Alvin Ho series when they were in middle elementary, too, and they are so much fun!
