Default Re-doing Layouts

I'm thinking that with about 400 layouts sitting on my hard drives, I should probably print some soon LOL.

I mean, I have everything from my very first page in June-ish 2007 til now, not printed. I look back on my old pages, and yeah, they suck...but the worst thing is, they have NO shadows. I do still have all the PSDs.

Would you go back and "fix" the layouts before printing, and add shadows? Or redo them completely if you didn't like them? I am actually wanting to redo some of them, but I wonder if that misses the point, because obviously I've gotten better, and it would be a good barometer of how much I've improved.

I think I am going to add the shadows to the old ones, I guess I'm not sure if I should redo them completely or not.

What have you done with old layouts?

ETA that I do not scrap chronologically, so it will be loose pages, not a bound book.

I have the exact same issue and I think I am going to do the shadows (probably easy shadows) and then print. Life is too short to re-do old layouts!

nope

But I'm just that way - it's part of the evolution of you learning how to digiscrap. For me, it's just not worth going and redoing old layouts. And funny thing, my boys tend to like the ones where you don't have to look as hard to find the photo and words. They tend to prefer those more simple layouts without all the stuff that makes it fun for me LOLOL

Yep! LOL I'm a big re-doer. My first paper layouts don't exist because I redid them at least 3 times. However, they were baby book layouts (don't start scrapping with something important). A lot of design team layouts that had to be forced because I had to work with a certain product ended up in the trash and I did them over. With digi layouts, I wouldn't hesitate one bit because it's so easy to re-do.

But whatever makes you happy. If it bugs you, then re-do them. If it doesn't, then don't.

Well, I'd really like to redo my pages from the first year of scrapping because they STINK and the shadows are ridiculous. But considering that there are about 100 of them, it's just not feasible (especially since they're already printed). I may go back and choose some of my favorite pictures and redo them, though.

I'm with Mary. I've redone lots of pages. I figure I've been scrapping long enough that I have plenty of evidence of how far I've come. So if I've got a really cute picture that I want to scrap again, I don't give it a second thought.

I've got a folder of pages that I want to re-do. When I'm in a rut and can't decide what I want to scrap, I pull a layout from that folder and re-do it.
Those pages are generally my early, no shadowing layouts, etc.

I've redone a few... even recent ones! If it were me, I would at least go put shadows on them. Honestly, I don't enjoy looking at the ones I don't like as much. Although, I don't mind my first layouts (like 20 or so that I have already redone) but they do have shadows and that adds a LOT! But if there are like 100 or more, I doubt I'd redo the whole layout unless you're a super fast scrapper. This just makes me think I should never save up that much because then there are bound to be a ton I'd want to redo!

I recently printed over 200 layouts(going back to when I started digi). Yeah I don't really like my older layouts, but I did them and am kinda proud of them. I did not redo any(would have took waaayyy too long), but I did go in and add shadows with a shadow action just so they had some shadows.

Hmmm, thanks for the advice, I'm not sure what to do now LOL!

I think I'll probably redo the really fugly ones, and just add shadows to the decent ones. We'll see, once I get into the folder, I might not do anything LOL

Nope, I would never re-do. I like to see how I've improved/changed. Plus I took a class by Stacy Julian years ago and she told me not to!

I rescrap photos but I don't redo pages. I also don't print the pages I don't love, so none of my early pages are printed.

I have re-scrapped pics many times...but never gone back and changed an old page. I kind of like to look at those old ones!

This was me just not to long ago Jamie!!! I had to dig out all the PSD to actually make a printable copy (I only ever saved a low resolution jpeg to my HD) so I did fix all my ugly size 21 shadows but I didn't rescrap any. My kids don't seem to mind......they just love reading the memory form the pages and that's what it's all really about for me!!!

I'm with Col. I've never rescrapped any of my older layouts. They are what they are and I just leave it as that. I do reuse photos though - I've used the same photo on 3 of my more recent layouts - all because I was too lazy to completely re-edit another one.

As for shadows, I would probably go back and fix them up if they were really really bad - like huge gray shadows that make everything look like they're flying off the page. My shadows were never that bad and since my old computer was so slow when I finally got around to printing, I just printed them as they were. I think I fixed up one and then decided it just wasn't worth the time. And really unless they're really really bad, you're probably the only one that would even notice.

I think I've only ever redone 2 or 3 layouts, but that was for a growth-type challenge, not because I'm compelled to redo layouts. I'm with Col, Pam & Laurie - if it's a photo I love, then I'll scrap it a Ga-Zillion times

Before I spend money on printing, I re-check my pages. I dislike a lot of my pages from early on. I think I am still learning everyday, so I apply new skills to my old layouts. I have re-scrapped photos a couple of times too!

I redid the really bad ones and just left the ones that weren't too bad alone.

I've redone paper pages, and I've redone digi pages. I don't give a rat's patootie about "seeing how I've evolved." I care more about enjoying the pages that get printed...which I can't do when I'm looking at bad design or shadow work, etc.

I think I'd keep a jpeg of the originals but print edited versions, just because you might be showing them to friends/family and it would be nice to be really proud of them KWIM. xxx

For me I don't usually. I don't bother printing layouts that aren't about Avalynne. Most of my first digi pages were just about whatever and more for practice than anything else. When Ava was born, I started working harder on my layouts and I've been happy with all of them. However, I posted my most hated layout in the other thread, and it's subject is my positive pregnancy test. It is horrible, and I refuse to put it in with her other pages because its just so ugly. So I'm re-doing it.

I guess my short answer is YES, I'd re-do some but ONLY if the memory is really special and its going to be displayed with my newer prettier pages.

Yeah, that's the thing. You have this really cute photo, fun memory you are documenting, and then an ugly page. I just can't do it - I want to be happy with my pages when I look at them. And I do have some that are not that great that I leave alone, so it's just the ones that I truly cannot stand that I re-do.

I don't redo LOs or rescrap photos. I'd rather spend that time getting another memory scrapped. But it helps that all my early LOs are in the same album--it would bother me more if they were mixed in with better LOs. In your situation I'd probably add shadows but not redo.

I would do a mixture, there are some layouts that really showed my style way back when but I still like them as a reference point to how I've progressed, I would keep those....then there are some that I really never liked and those I would probably redo!
