Default So, if you have a broken foot, could you walk on it?

I'm starting to wonder if I've broken a bone in my foot. Last Saturday I was outside and stepped off my deck and into a gopher hole. It immediately twisted up my foot/ankle and I actually cried for a minute. It was sore and immediately started swelling. It became really stiff and swollen and I could barely flex my ankle. I figured it was just a sprain. But here we are 6+ days later and it still hurts. Like sometimes sudden gasping pain. The swelling is gone, but uh, I'd like the pain to be gone! It hurts on the top of my foot and some times on my outer ankle. So, I'm really starting to wonder if it is more than a sprain. I tried to search WebMD for some answers, but they are useless. Anyone care to play doctor or give me your broken/sprained foot stories?

you can, but with a lot of pain. I broke mine by stepping in a hole at camp one year and nobody would take me in cause they thought i was faking. It was in a lot of pain and a lot of crying. You should prob go get an xay to be sure. Even if its a sprain or a pulled muscle you shouldnt be walking on it.

yes, you foot could be broken. Being the weekend, it may be hard to get an xray. The may put you in a waking cast--a firm splint type of thing.

Do what you can to keep your foot imobile and see if that helps.

Sorry for your pain!!!

If it still hurts that bad, you should have it checked out.

I could certainly be broken, but chances are its just a horrible sprain. My ortho doc said bad foot sprains can be worse than breaks sometimes.
When I was preggo with Cam, I fell down some stairs (I'm a total clutz) and "sprained" my foot. I had to wear a walking cast for two weeks and my foot felt broken for at least a full 10 days. My toes all turned black and blue and I could hardly walk on it. It was awful. But no break. You might want to have it checked out, but I don't know.... it sounds like a nasty sprain to me.

I sprained my ankle a couple years ago, and it HURT for months afterward. I did go in for an xray and it was not broken, but MAN it hurt BAD for a long time. I thought I would never be normal again! But, as it turns out, I was not normal to begin with (ha ha, hee he, ... ha. okay so it wasn't funny)

Anyway, it could hurt ALOT and not be broken. But still, get it checked if ya can.

Xays are always expensive *YUCK* I have an interesting story--when I was like 12 I broke a disc in my ankle from stepping into a hole didnt knwo for awhile--I mean it hurt and swelled just like it sounds like urs I even went and jummped on a trampoline with mine--my parents took me of course to the doc and they told me I'd broken my growth plates in my ankle--strange right? Just a thought because it sounds EXACTLY like u said---so if I had to play doc--I would say elevate it (ER visits are bound to get u sicker--and the wait is always killer especially if u have kids) and see the doc on monday---keep it elevated---and take some motrin *shakes head--no my dad is not a doc and my mom is not an RN *ROFL*---i grew up in a hospital i swear---working on my nurisng license along with medical transription license---lol!* Had to put my 2 cents in...which ended up being more like 1.00 ) Sorry for babbling! Hope u feel better *HUGS*
