Default Kitchen Renovation Design help please

So we bought a 1970s house not too long ago and we are in the middle of renovating it. Right now it's time for us to order our kitchen cabinets, except I'm having a hard time choosing our hood style. The two options are stainless steel range hood or wood canopy range hood. Our kitchen will have white shaker cabinets with stainless steel handles. Our appliances will be stainless as well.

I have done a couple of drawings in photoshop to map out my vision, but I still am having a hard time deciding. Will you please tell me which look you like best? I would like to have a transitional-to-modern style kitchen with charm.

With wood canopy range hood?

Or with stainless steel range hood?

And here's a look at the other cabinet wall in our kitchen in case it helps.

What's your pick?

I'd think the wood hood would make it feel more custom compared to the stainless.

I just love that you mocked it all up in PS. You're adorable.

I would vote for wood, too. Like Lynnette said--it would look more custom.

I vote for the wood also.

I haven't seen the debate on FB but my sister had an over the range microwave and ended up being burned severely by spilling something down the front of her I will never ever have one for this reason, especially with kids.

This is exactly why I can't get started on our kitchen remodel. They both look nice to me.

Have you thought about the over the range microwave? I honestly don't like the hood but that's me and a microwave is a must in our home, it keeps off of counter or having to buy something else to stack it on.

I'd go with the wood it's easier to clean. I honestly am starting to hate my stainless steel b/c I'm wiping it every darn day b/c of smudges and such from the kiddos and I have 4 lovies that like to open the fridge 10x's a day Ok sorry for the rant!

Yikes, I've had mine for over 6 years and Thankfully this has yet to happen to us.

The wood ones look great for a few years. Then they can show damage from steam and grease. When we remodeled our kitchen a few years back we went with the stainless one and I really liked it. Then when we moved to Seattle the house had a similar stainless one and 2+ years in it still looks great.

I think I vote for the wood, but I don't know the benefits or drawbacks of each.

So sorry that happened to her! But as for safety and kids, I think a lot depends on their ages. When mine were little, it made me very happy that our microwave was so high up that there was no way for them to get to it. I have one who without a doubt would have been pushing the buttons and starting it when he was 4 or 5 if it was sitting on a counter. But I do agree on older kids and the high microwave. I'm sure we'll wait longer to give the kids microwave privileges than we would if it was lower down.

I missed the debate, too, I was going to suggest the microwave, too. It's what I have and love it. haha

I have no experience with the other ones, but I think I would do the stainless.

Thank you all for the awesome responses. I really appreciate it. I have decided to go with the wood hood cause I really do love the way that looks. Thanks again for all the feedback!
