or at least birth control :) So as I sit here staring at my pack of pills which i just took Tuesdays pill and its Thursday:unsure: Im thinking of some other forms of the mighty BC. So ladies and dude :) let me hear what you use/have used in the past that worked or didn't work. My husband brought me home a brochure for Implanon...anyone using it? How is it?

My hubbys fight: He had an appointment on the 16th to chat with the doc about getting the ol' snip snip done but after we talked "I thought you didn't want more kids" "No, I thought you didn't want more kids...:blink:
he cancelled it...so we're looking for less permanent alternatives. Please excuse any spelling errors its late/early and I should be sleeping....

ya know, I've been wondering too. I have seen a couple different commercials on tv for some new forms of BC and with dh off on TDY I'm 'free' so to speak, from having to remember my one-a-day. LOL I've been wondering if it's time to look into one of these new-fangled and possibly better types.

Dh and I are the same way, don't plan on having more kids but don't necessarily wanna go with the snip*snip. so let's hear it, what does everyone use and any good suggestions.
 
I am getting the Mirena IUD next month. I had it before and didn't have any complaints. It lasts up to 5 years (you can have it removed sooner) and as a bonus I didn't get my monthly visiter either. When I wanted to get prego, I had it taken out, and was pregnant within 1 1/2 months, so it doesn't seen to have an effect on fertility.
 
I've been on the pill since I was 15, except for the times I was TTC and prego. For me, taking one every day now, is just routine.

DH has spoken to the doc about the snip snip, so we'll see if he actually does it. I'd like to get off of these things now...except I wonder what kind of a personality I have without those hormones :D
 
I have issues with chemical birth control, especially with my family history of breast cancer which I don't want to get into here but you can ask me about it. So we do a natural family planning/condom thing. My cycles are tight and easy to predict when I'm ovulating. For us, wanting to have two children close together that was helpful - no worrying about getting on and off something. My husband is looking at surgery, but doctors around here don't want to perform it on someone under 30 for some reason. We'll be 28 next year, so we might have to wait a little bit.
 
I was on the pill from the time I was 19 until about 2 years ago in January when DH got the 'deed' done. At that point I was going to go and have my tubes tied and he realized it would be easier for him once he got over the whole 'man' thing. I did use a diaphram for about a year in my 20s and I HIGHLY do not recommend it. It's messy, and there is no spontaneity when you use it! LOL! If I wasn't ready to do the 'permanent' thing I was going to try the IUD next just to get off the pill. Good luck with your decision.
 
I got my tubes tied after my last child. I knew I didnt want more kids. Sometimes I get a little sad knowing that my last is defenitely my last but I had three kids and we (my husband and I) both knew that we couldnt afford anymore then three. Its tough with three alot of times. I was having a c-section anyhow so I felt that it just made sense while the doctor was in there to do that too. It didnt require any extra recovery time for me and wouldnt cause anymore discomfort. The plusses are we are more free to actually enjoy sex and not worry about well did it(it meaning our B.C. choice) work? What are we going to use and then what if the choice we made ran out in the middle of things (condom or foam or other B.C?) and I do not have that thought running through my mind if I am a few days late of am I or arent I? This choice isnt right for everyone but for us it was the best thing and I tried alot of different things.
 
I had my tubes tied when I had Landen...If my hubby had it to do all over again he wouldn't have been so keen on the idea...he wants another baby soooo badly...he has resigned himself to grandchildren at this point, but I still get the "I wish we hadn't decided that" every once in awhile.
I on the other hand have no desire to have more children so the tubal was a no brainer for me.
 
I've been on the pill for 8 years (same one, Yasmin). I'm AWFUL at taking it sometimes. I often forget on the weekends, so I take 2 pills on monday to catch up.

We also still use condoms (which seems to shock everyone I know) even though we've been together for almost 3 years and are engaged. It's just TOO messy for me if you catch my drift. Every once and a while we'll skip the condom, but that's more a treat for Jordan, LOL!

I am thinking about the IUD though. Although at this point, I probably won't go in that direction for a while, like maybe after we have kids.
 
I have been on BC since I was 14. I first started with ortho trycyclin(sp) which made me a rageing bitch. My doctor then suggested the patch. I was on this for a good 3-4 years and loved it. It was so easy!

But unfortunately the doctors felt it was way too many hormones and to high of a risk to continue to use. So they then put me on the ring in which I used for a year. Yeah it was great that you could insert it and not have to worry every day, but it was very unconfortable for me. I felt it all the time, and when going to the restroom It would sometimes slip out.

At this point I was getting worried. I didn't want to go back to the pill and become the raging bitch again. But my doctor assured me that YAZ was the pill for me then.

So I went on YAZ and was on it for the past year. LOVED IT. I put it on the night stand and take one before I go to bed so I don't forget. I just got off of it 2 weeks ago. Reason is we want to have a baby. So we were told that you need to be offf of it for 3 months before trying so now we are using condoms.
 
I had been on the pill for years, but I have been thinking of getting in IUD. I am gonna make an appointment with my gyno in a month or two and talk to her. I have heard mostly good things about it.
 
After my first baby I had the IUD put in. I LOVED it (got it taken out a month ago so we can have another baby). It was so nice not to have to remember to take a pill everyday. My periods were so much lighter, too. I would really recommend it. Once we have baby number 2 the IUD is going back in.
 
I have only ever used a combination of pills/condoms. I haven't been on the pill, though, for about 7.5 years, lol. After Natalie was born, DH had the "snip snip" done, which I really regret now (because I want another...he doesn't really but I DO, lol). Here, the wife has to give written consent that their husband can get it done if they're younger than like 30 or 35.

ETA: Pretty sure that the pill I was on, when I was on it, was Tri-Cyclen Lo.
 
I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo in college for my crazy peri0ds, but my roommates asked me to try something different! HAHA! They never could tell when I was about to start until I went on the pill. Then, they always knew to stay away! lol I was SO moody on the pill. When I was living at home, my own mom didn't even know when it was my time! LOL So, after just about 6 months, I switched to the Ortho Evra patch & I LOVE it! :)

I could have written this almost word for word. We're done having kids and dh is supposed to be getting the big V done but he's dragging his feet. :cursing: I'm ready to be done with the pill for good!

I've heard great things about the Mirena IUD though and it's what I am considering if dh doesn't hurry up and get snipped. :)
 
I'm not on anything because Jeff got fixed. However, I'm considering some form of something to regulate these crazy ass periods I have, so we'll see. I really don't want to go back on the pill.
 
I had been on the pill for about 15 years. I found that the lightest dose worked the best only because of all the side effects that go along with them. If it's an issue of learning to take them every day, then find somewhere that you go every morning or every night that you can place them to remind you to take them. I even know of some people who set an alarm on their cell phone to remind them to take them.

I now am free of all that crap, only because I was forced to have a hysterectomy after my second child. Talk about a hormonal situation!!! I still have 1 ovary, but it's nuts the things your body goes through... Hot flashes, moodiness, etc. etc. I used to think pms was bad! LOL.
 
I have issues w/ chemical BC as well. My midwife reccomended a tubal when I was pregnant w/ my daughter and had a difficult pregnancy (to say the least) but I was only 25 & getting divorced and wouldn't consent.

After XDH left I didn't have any 'need' for BC for a few years. Now that I am with Bill my midwife suggested an IUD but a few bad stories & the cost turned me away.
 
I've been using NuvaRing for 2ish years now. It really is great, the whole "insert once for 21 days" (I use it for longer to avoid bleeding to death, yeah...fun), but IMO, it's a two person job. I cannot get the ring in comfortable without DH's help. The NP I saw even said, "If your husband's around, make him help you."

Drawbacks? Well, once you remove it for your period, the hormones don't stay built up in your system, so the first week with the ring in again...double up with a condom for safety. I hate that aspect of it. We tend to avoid each other during that week, lol!!! Other drawbacks...having the ring slip out, being able to feel it (I never have, unless it's not in right), having the man be able to feel it (he's only noticed it once...it was in wrong.). Beyond that, I can't think of any.
 
I have the Mirena IUD, and mostly like it, I get random periods, which are annoying, but its nice not getting one every month, I also FEEL pregnant, every month when my period WOULD be here, which i HATE... I wish taht would go away, other then that, I love it.

I got pregnant with Elle on the nuvoing, using it correctly, so for me that type of BC is out.
 
Awww, did babysitting Cooper and Keira make Robert want more babies? LOL! You didn't tell me that yesterday. I can't help you, you know I'm fixed. LOL! :)

Thanks for the info ladies....Im still unsure of what Im going to do :) Its hard to make a decision because everyone has different side effects. Thanks again.

Same thing for me, natural planning/condom, until my little surprise two years ago, she's the biggest blessing in my life turns out, but after her I opted for the non-hormonal IUD. I'm liking it so far and it will work for 10 years, at which point I hope to convince him to get snipped :)
 
I've been using the Nuva ring for a year now. I love it. No problems inserting or removing it, it doesn't move around, DH never knows it's 'there' if you know what I mean... Put it in and forget about it for 3 weeks.

The big con for me is cost. With my insurance it's $50 a ring and because I am using it to treat endo I use 4 rings in a row, without the week break between them. So it is $200 every 3 months :0
 
I was 20 when I had my first child. 21 when I had my second and 23 when I had my third. Then I had my tubes tied. I got divorced when I was 25 and was glad that I din't have to worry about it.
Fast forward 3 years. I remarried and my husband wanted a child of his own. So I went to a fertility clinic. I went through invitro fertilization in which they extract your eggs, fertilize them and transfer them into your cervix, bypassing the tubes all together. Have you seen the pictures of my twins?
A tubal is not the end if you want more children. It just becomes a very conscious decision, rather than an afterthought.

Because my health insurance hasn't kicked in yet, and I ran out of pills, I am doing natural/condom method right now. It hasn't been that bad, but I miss my pills! Taking them everyday hasn't ever been an issue. And I am super fertile. I have gotten pregnant immediately after going off pills five times... 3 miscarriages, 2 live births. I think that is what scares me into taking my pills everyday! :)

I was on ortho-tricyclen for a while... AWFUL horrible mood swings, gained 50 lbs, BAD skin... yuck!
I was on Yasmin before I got pregnant with Ainsley. I loved it! I lost weight. I was a size 4 before I got pregnant. My skin was great. No mood swings at all. And trust me, I had plenty to be moody about at the time!
After I had Ainsley, I was on the mini-pill for a while and that was great. After I went off that, I still had one pack of Yasmin left from before so I went back on that and it was awesome! I lost the last of the baby weight. But then that was gone. My doctor had given me three samples of Yaz for after I was done breastfeeding, I started taking that and WOW! HORRIBLE! My periods were awful. I felt like I was bleeding to death. I was bleeding more than after I had a baby! I gained 40 lbs. I can't fit in any of my clothes. And my daughter kept telling me that I was mean. And I was! I went off it and I am waiting to go back to the doctor and get some more Yasmin. I have been off Yaz for two months now and I can totally tell a difference in my attitude and outlook on life. I have also started losing weight. It's coming off pretty slowly this time. I am hoping the Yasmin will help with that.

And my sister is the exact opposite of me! She can't take Yasmin, but loves Yaz!

I can't do the IUD. I am one of those people who builds up scar-tissue really easily and I have super-sensitive skin AND a ton of allergies. So, it could get scary if I develop an allergy to it.

Yeah, I think 17 years of being the one in charge, it's time HE did something.

I guess, since I went on it so early and stayed on it so long, I have NO idea if this is my actual personality, what if I'm really a different person inside this body when I'm not taking hormones? LOL
 
I want Mirena. My insurance will cover it because we met our deductible this year. I am HORRIBLE at remembering to take my pills because my bedtime is rather unpredictable. I tried to take it in the morning, but if I had a hectic morning I would forget .... yeah, the pill just doesn't work for me.

I've heard of goofy periods for the first year, and sometimes cramping. I'm willing to give it a try and see how it goes.
 
I thought about IUD, but never got to make the appt with my doctor. I thought you still got light periods but no periods is a HUGE plus! I need something to regulate mine since after having the girls my periods are embarrassingly heavy. Don't mean to gross anyone out, but I had to go home from work a couple of times because there was no way to contain it. yuck!
 
I take the minipill now b/c i'm nursing..but I was on loestrin before this. I have to take a lo dose b/c the hormones just do bad things for my mood lol

He wants another baby so badly-he doesn't hold it against me(my decision to be done), but I know he sees Landen growing up so quickly and it makes his heart hurt so badly...He loves being a daddy...I keep trying to console him with the thoughts of grandchildren...and our friends babies, but honestly...to him the best babies are the ones we created...LOL
What a journey for you though, its very inspiring...maybe I will let him read it...hehe.
 
DH got snipped, said it really wasn't that bad, so I don't take anything...but I was on Depo off and on after having oldest DD...never was good at taking my pills....I have heard really good things about IUD's though....
