Dilemma

It's mine and Tony's 10th anniversary this year, in July. We want to do something fun this year, but it's not actually going to be on our anniversary, since we'll be moving or in the process thereof.

Tony is a New England Patriots fan, me, a Miami Dolphins fan. We have wanted to go see a game for years. We're looking at next fall, and Miami goes to NE on November 8th. We don't want to go to Miami (which they play each other on Dec 6) particularly, but it would be an option, since seats are cheap then too.

Problem is, November 8th is Rachael's 5th birthday. We really want to do this trip, because we didn't go on a honeymoon, and have never gone anywhere together in the 10 years we've been married. We go to the city once a blue moon for a night, but that's it. And keep in mind, our "city" is St. John's Newfoundland, not exactly a major big city.

I can't miss my baby's birthday...but I really want to do this trip too.

Can I have honest opinions on what you would do? I feel like the worst mother on earth for even contemplating this, when we could go to Miami instead on Dec 6 and it not interfere with anything. We'd just rather go to NE.

to be honest I dont see why you couldn't do something special for the birthday a few days before/after. I mean this is the tenth anniversary and that is kinda special. Not saying your little girls birthday isnt also special too but at five well I dont really think a day or two before/after to celebrate is gonna make a huge difference. If it was me I would probably do it before her birthday tehn go to the game and do something with her after the trip so she has an extra special time this year to make up for missing hte actual day. We rarely if ever celebrated on my kids actual birthday because we always had a party on the weekend and birthdays dont always fall on a Saturday or a Sunday LOL

I agree with Jessica...push Rae's party up or back and she will never understand until she is old enough to get it and appreciate the fact that her mommy and daddy needed some away time.

First off Nov 8th is mine and Dh's 12th anniversary so you have to have some booze and nookie for us

Second of all just ask Rae....see what she thinks.....she's old enough to understand that mom's and dad's need special days too and would it be alright if you just this once celerated her birthday (with something big and special for her of course) a few days early!!! She might surprise you be alright with it!!!

I would celebrate the birthday early, and go spend time in NE with my dh.

Go...and have a fabulous time!! You are NOT going to be a bad mom for missing the actual day of her birthday!

We had to do dh's 50th b-day at a different time awhile back because of the NFL schedule too! Dang that NFL!!

I agree about doing your daughter's birthday a few days before or after... You two do need your time together too!

We're going to have my son's 4th birthday party a few days late this year because his birthday is on a Tuesday. I would normally have his party the weekend before, but I'm going to be having our next baby on the 26th of June so I want an extra week to be good and recovered before having a party. kwim? I know my son won't care at all, no kid would!

Thanks guys! I think we will do it. We have NEVER gone on vacation anywhere ever. We've been together for 13 years!

We have wanted to do this for so long. It stinks that it falls on Rae's birthday, but for some reason we really wanted to do NE instead of Miami, even though if we went to Miami, it would be better for me wearing my jersey ROFL
