Does this ever happen when you cook?

This happens all the time to me...I spend time cooking...and once it is ready...I have no desire to eat it at all! blech. Nothing wrong with it...just tired I guess of smelling it??

I just made (my americanized version...i.e. without veggies) of pork fried rice ... made a big big batch ... now ... I'm eating yogurt!

Does this happen to anyone else? Any ideas on how I can get past this?

Every. Single. Day. lol...I'm never very interested in my own cooking. I always say food tastes better when someone else cooks it :) :)

Yep...all the time! And then when I was pregnant, I couldn't cook meat or else I couldn't eat it...DH had to start cooking for me.

Ok ...glad to know it isn't JUST ME!!! dh thought it was strange...I just told him the Sweet Shoppe gals backed me up on this! lol

it happens to me! Mostly because I am too tired fending off kids and a crying two yr old that by the time dinner is done my appetite is gone!!!!!! My 2yr old follows me every where. When I am making dinner she stands next to me crying "hold you mama, hold you!!!!With her arms up. Ugh, poor baby!!! So that usually makes me want to get out of the kitchen pretty quick.

I remember those days! Back then I used to cook on the weekend when dh could watch the kids...because I had two kids 17 months apart...had a gate to hold them out of kitchen (for their safety) but they would bang on the gate...or disappear into the room and get quiet...very hard to cook then. So I would cook on the weekend and dh would help keep dishes cleaned...and I would stock the frig...and the freezer so we can reheat whenever we run out of things. Thank goodness for a seperate freezer!

This happens to me also!! Besides the fact that I *hate* to cook.. I am just not interested in eating when I'm finally done with that *chore*. Seriously, DH and I were talking about the 'old' days when dinner wasn't necessary, only if we felt like making dinner. Now we have boys to feed.. the baby is easy, it's my whiney 4 yo who usually ends up going to bed without eating because he doesn't like what I've made and I'm usually cooking with him in mind. *grrr* -sorry for the tangent-

*btw* Rae.. I so was living what you wrote tonight!!

smelling it when i'm cooking makes me more hungry. i say you just eat it anyway before i put you in time out.

ewwwwwwwwwwww I can't! Makes me nauseous! ds cooked up some ground turkey this evening...was hoping dh would make chili...then I would eat that... but he said "tomorrow". sigh. So I ate yogurt.

My husband would totally laugh if he read this. I am SO like this when I cook. I don't "taste test" along the way at all...I just want nothing to do with it when it's done. Just the thought of eating at that point makes me ill.

But in general, I'm one of those weirdos who actually doesn't think "home cooking" is better than what I can get at the restaurants. I just can't rock the chicken fajita nachos like my fave Tex Mex place can.

This has only happened to me once...and I made "green" spaghetti. Why I chose to buy this, I have no idea. My dh was so sweet and ate it, but just looking at it made me ill. I have nothing against green, as a matter of fact, veggies make up most of my diet, but not my noodles!!

btw...how do you NOT eat veggies Sharon? I can't imagine. I grew up with a family that had a huge garden and we had fresh veggies every meal. I don't garden now, but I shop for fresh veggies ever week at the farmers market. I know that growing up in California we have always had the freshest available. My brother complains about how horrible fruits and veggies are back east. Do you eat fruit? Just wondering here..............

Actually I do...just a bit more limited than other people. Parents basically forced me to eat ones I didn't like...not taking advantage of me liking other kinds...which makes me to this day hate okra and spinach and a few other veggies.

I do love corn on the cob...and eat green beans (although I love them fresh with new potatoes) ... eat canned corn although I really don't like it that much. I like fresh cauliflower and carrots dipped in fat free ranch...love potatoes in many different ways...

I do eat salads...NOW...for about 15 years I couldn't eat fresh lettuce or cauliflower because of the SEVERE stomach cramps it would give me...turns out I had gallbladder troubles and none of the doctors recognized the symptoms when I described it to them...so I avoided those two items for years.

I like grilled onions in my chicken or steak fajitas...although I don't eat a lot of them...just a couple of slices. I like the salsa I have a recipe for...and I like my chili with red and green peppers (although pureed).

So I really don't go without eating them...it's just not at every meal. My digestive system still has problems with veggies...I can't even average a salad a day in most cases...all starts going right through me. It took years after my gallbladder surgery before I could eat lettuce again. Green beans, fresh tomatoes (I love!), and potatoes are about all my system can handle continuously.

Only thing is...the rest of the family doesn't like anything but corn and green beans...dh will eat a salad occasionally.

Fruit...L-O-V-E bananas...my favorite. I like pineapple, canteloupe, cherries in recipes (or frozen in a smoothie), raisins (generally in cookies or oatmeal), apple slices (I do have a pampered chef apple slicer I love)...I think that is about it. ...and that is much more than the rest of the family...the boys will only eat apples and bananas.

I love the dried sugared pineapple pieces...just wish I could find it with Splenda rather than regular sugar. It's one of my weaknesses...if anyone knows of pineapple that is dried and has Splenda...please let me know!

well I don't know if it's the same thing..I have to nibble and taste as I cook so I am usually FULL when it's done, but it was good during the tasting! LOL

The only reason I cook is so I don't starve, haha. I can't imagine doing all the work and then not actually eating.

Well it sounds good before I start it...but by the time I'm done making it and smelling it...I don't want it any more.
