do any of your kiddos with bad allergies..

have issues with their hearing intermittently? I'm going to make ce a drs appt this week hopefully.. but I'm worried they'll look at me like I'm wacko Ce's tutor is concerned he's not hearing well & thinks it's because he's so congested. .you can see it in his face that he is, he's puffy and his eyes are purple. I thought he was still sick but now I'm pretty convinced it's just his allergies being quite evil. He had a hearing test this summer and it was fine.. but I was just curious if anyone elses kiddos had any issues.. I'm going to hopefully try some different allergy meds with him and see if things improve (he isn't on any right now because he had some major bad reactions - in the.. turned blue and his face rashed up category.. so I've been weary).

I have terrible sinus problames and allergies and my ears get stopped up soooooooo bad b/c of them....so that's quite a possibility...does he take anything? An antihistimine like Zyrtec or Claritin will dry the stuff up..or a decongestant like sudafed will loosen it up if needed (they do make them combined too)

yeh he's on nothing right now cause I'm afraid of them LOL.. the one he had the reaction to.. crap what was it called.. that one that was for allergies AND asthma... singulair? maybe.. that IS totally different than like clariton, so maybe I can try that (that's otc right?) it's silly that I'm thinking i'll just wait to see what the dr says.. when THEY are the ones that gave him the evil singulair to begin with haha. He's never had an ear infection or anything so its so weird to me that he'd be having these ear issues.

I used to take Singulair myself..and one of my kiddos takes it now..it's crazy how different some meds work for some people vs others...

yeah Claritin and Zyrtec both are over the counter

lol it IS a great med.. for other people. I remember being so mad that his asthma/allergy meds were doing to him exactly what they were supposed to be helping him with.. we never figured out what the issue was.. the nurse just yelled at me and told me it was safe for kids.. I was like ok. tell that to my blue child. lol anyway... haha..

La, I have a lot of sinus issues, and I find that I'm practically deaf sometimes, my hearing gets so bad. I do think it's a possibility.

I know when I have sinus issues and my allergies are acting up, my ears get plugged up...

We have the problem with Aiden, Lauren. We're actually going through it now. Both of my kids are on loritadine year round now (generic claritin...cheap!) but in the spring/fall, we have to put Connor on Zyrtec (I can't remember the generic name, but it is out OTC in generic form). And now, A is on a decongestant to get the fluids out of his head that he has been struggling with for the last couple of weeks. The fluid building up doesn't have to be infected to cause a problem with the inner ear not working properly, and you can get hearing problems because of it, as well as balance issues. So even if you didn't do a OTC allergy med per se, you can do a non-drowsy decongestant for him to help clear him up.

thanks girlies! and yeh darcenator.. I think that's the part that has had me confused, the kid has literally never had an ear infection in his life... so I'm just like @_@. He does complain about his ears sometimes though, I just never paid attention- cause he says a lot of weird things I emailed my mom last night & she has some herbal stuff she has made (she only does safe for kids and preggos stuff so don't worry ^_^ ) that we're going to try first before I load him up with meds I think.. it might not work,who knows.. but it's worth a try- for my sanity lol.

My youngest had some ongoing hearing issues a year ago. It took a few visits but eventually they worked out the problem was related to his tonsils & adnoids. Took them out and even though he still has his allergy congestions he can hear just fine. My other son has worse allergies but they never affect his hearing. They both take OTC Zyrtec or it's generic & we do those Zicam swabs too sometimes.
