I wrote the letter the way I would if I could sneak a quick note back to past
me - this was a hard time in my life, and I really felt like all was hopeless -
and a reassuring letter at this moment really would have been welcomed

Do you know that your life is on the verge of beginning. I know that
it doesn’t feel like it right now, but it is. The trip you’re on is a get away
trip - a spontaneous road trip with three friends to help you forget the man
who broke your heart. I know you feel shattered right now, but it will all get better
soon! I know that it hurts to breathe - to even think. If you let your mind wander
to him, tears are nearly instant. But this is 2001! You rang in the new year last
night with friends and strangers alike, and now you need to let the feeling of
possibilities take over because 2001 will bring about so many wonderful changes!
By the end of the year - you will be taking the first steps towards the rest of
what will be your life. Just hang in there. You have a couple rough spots just ahead
in the next couple of months - but in those darkest moments, the light of your
true love will shine as you finally meet “the one” and life will finally begin in earnest!
