Chef Mickey's is one of the most popular restaurants at Disney World and reservations were tough to get, but I stalked the Disney message boards until I was able to snag some. The restaurant is inside the Contemporary Hotel. The monorail runs through the Contemporary so I'd seen it as the monorail passed through it, but it was fun to get out and check it out. Caleb thought it was pretty cool that the train goes right through the building-definitely not something you see everyday. Our dinner reservations were on a Saturday night and I was worried that it would still take a while to get seated and it did. Luckily I came prepared with Caleb's Leaspter so he was able to play with that while we waited. After an hour wait with other unruly kids, I was starting to wonder if this experience was going to be worth it-surprisingly, it was. We were seated and were told that our section had a short break until more characters came out so we headed to the buffet to fix our plates. Caleb got cheese, pizza, and croutons-gourmet fare for him, and I was pleasantly surprised by mashed potatoes and roast beef. We took our seats and waited for the characters to come by. It didn't take long until we saw Mickey making his way to each table. The nice thing about this experience was that each character comes to you. You can sit and eat and just watch all that's going on around you and don't have to stand in line. Caleb was so excited to see each of the characters and he smiled so big that he seemed about to burst with the joy of it all. He chit chatted with them all. He told Mickey that he was quite a chef and that he was enjoying his cooking. Goofy indicated that he liked Caleb's spiky hair, and showed him how his was spiky too. Caleb told Minnie that she looked very pretty so she held his hand, and gave him a kiss on the head and rubbed noses with him. He talked about that for the rest of the night. He was so excited that she gave him a kiss and seemed to like Minnie the best of all the characters. Pluto showed him how he liked a good pat on the head, and gave him knuckles. The characters also do a little dance and everybody waves their napkins in the air and dances along. After the characters came through we made our way to the dessert bar. They've got an ice cream station that is guaranteed to make kids of all ages squeal in delight. There are all kinds of candies to top your ice cream and then a whole rack of other desserts to choose from. A very sweet end to a wonderful night. We both gave the Chef Mickey's experience two thumbs up!
