A friend of mine told me about the eagles hatching at Big Bear and since my oldest is doing a unit on birds I mentioned it to him one day after school and he was like- oh, we watch it at school all the time. That’s Shadow the Dad and he’s not very good at watching the eggs but there’s Jackie and she’s the Mom and she keeps the eggs warm all day.

That’s all it took- I’ve been watching them nonstop since. It’s like a soap opera hahaha. Yesterday we were watching the eagles have a conversation and I was doing the voiceovers:

Hey, I saw another charge at Target.
Well the eggs needed new grass and I got you a little something for your birthday.
You didn’t have to do that, it’s like the third charge this month and we’re on a budget.

The kids were dying laughing and then in the silence my oldest was like- is that what you and Daddy fight about?

Yeap. Yeap it is kid :D:D:D

Anyway, two of the babies hatched last night and we’re waiting on the third. II think there’s some weird genetic shift that happens when you turn 40 all the sudden birds are really interesting. Just, thought I’d share and see if anyone else has been following their story!

Yes, I am OBSESSED! It was so sad last year when their eggs didn't hatch so I've been on the edge of my seat this year! Looking good so far!

I haven't 'watched' per se, but I've seen videos/reels (whatever the kids call them these days) and I would love to have time- but I know myself & if I click on that link, I'm done! lol I also think that birdwatching switch turned on for me too as I love watching the hummingbirds in our trees. lmao

I was watching yesterday.... and was wondering... did the 3rd egg hatch, and if not, is it still able to hatch? I could google, but I was here, lol!

Yes, it could still hatch. They lay the eggs over a series of days so that one could just have been later than the others. There have been several years that this couple had none hatch for reasons unknown so possibly it might not hatch also.

Thanks, Dawn! I'm hoping it does! I did read a little on how it came about. I'm so curious how this turns out. Who knew this would be addictive, lol!

It looks like one of the eaglets is missing :crying:

I haven’t seen them confirm it yet, but I only see two in there now.

So sad about this!
I keep them on on one of my screens at work. It's so fascinating!

I'm so sad that they lost one of the little ones in that terrible storm. Nature can be cruel.
