I went to see a movie with my husband yesterday. There were only about 9 people in this theater.

It was based on real events, so it got a little slow a few times, but I enjoyed it. My husband dozed off a couple times :w00t: HA. But my comment/question today is that I had a full dose of nostalgia at the end of the movie when they flashed the updates of characters on the screen and the older gentleman on the other side of our row read aloud (not trying to be rude just really absorbed in the moment) and commented things like "wow that's remarkable" etc. It was so pure!
It reminded me so much of something my dad would have done. He used to talk through the previews and wouldn't think twice about commenting during the credits like this man. [He was quiet during the movie thank goodness!] This thing embarrassed me so much as a kid/young adult when I really just wanted him to be silent and not bring me any unwanted attention. He's still alive and still does this (probably more now since he's a bit hard of hearing!) but it got me thinking about my dad with such nostalgia. My husband even said - "He's like your dad!" it's such a trait! It made me laugh out loud several times on the drive home because it was so him!
The trio behind us also were quietly talking at one point during the movie - "No don't do it" about the plot. So I wonder - is this more of a thing since we've watched so many movies at home in the advent of streaming and post-Covid. Was my dad ahead of his time? :o
Does this irk you or are you okay with the communal experience? Personally it made me day yesterday

Aaaw, I'm glad you had the warm fuzzies!
I'm not sure how I would feel. The last few years I have been very isolated. Would I be annoyed? Would I crave the connection? When I do go out in public, I seem to be more relaxed and understanding of things than in my youth. I'm not as high strung. Maybe I should get out there more and find out!

I think little comments here and there during a movie at the theater are ok. It's like when people gasp out loud at something shocking. It's not done to be rude, but just like you said in the moment! And the fact that it was in regards to the movie itself, I think it is fine! How sweet that he reminded you of your dad and gave you a sweet remembering moment!
We stay all the way through the credits when we go to the movies. We are usually some of the last ones to leave the theater (with the cleaning crew waiting on us). We do this for a few reasons- it lets the theater clear out so we aren't in such a crowd of people making a mass exit, my husband loves to see who an actor or actress was, to see where it may have been filmed (if a really pretty location), and with a daughter who will one day maybe have her name in the credits as a set designer....it's cool to see the names of even the "little people" on the screen!

I'm like Dawn... when everyone gasps, laughs or has the same initial reaction I love that group feeling in such a singular activity.
I am a talker of a different sort, lol! I don't do this in the theater, but I at home, I will ask my husband a ton a of questions! lol! I can't watch quietly, unless I'm scrapping or side watching while reading. He's pretty patient, haha!

Yes doooo - it's quieter and I think businesses need us in person again. I've mellowed too. It's not that important, right?

We do that too about watching the credits - we grew up in LA and knew many of the little people :D

Me too... I love a movie, show or book that makes you think. I love to mull things over afterward.

I am like this at home too, especially during historical movies (history is not my strong point, so I ask questions so it makes more sense to me!) At home our big thing is "how do we know them?" and then someone googling it to figure out what movie they are from. I guess our staying through the credits is our version of that at the theater! :)
My MIL is one of those "watch out!" "Why did they do that?" "Oh no!" type people when watching a movie. We sometimes make fun of her for it, because she will turn to us and then ask us more about it like "did you know that was going to happen?" -no, we just saw this movie for the 1st time too!

See, we just made staying for the credits cool before they started adding all those hidden scenes! :)

OK, I'm gonna show my inner witch and tell you a story, which I will make brief.
First, I don't like talking during movies if I'm in the theater. I don't mind the gasps or screams or laughter. I agree that it makes you feel close to everyone there.
Second, I don't mind talking during TV shows, as long as the TV is paused for questions to be asked and answered, or information is looked up. Even then, sometimes when I'm in a good show, I don't even want to pause to do that.
And now my story:
This happened around 2000. Husband had a work training in Laurel, MD. My sister was living nearby and joined us. While hubby was busy, we went to the theater to see American Beauty. There were only two other people in the theater and they were two older ladies, I'm guessing about the age I am now.
Anyway, one or both of them were narrating. "Oh gee, is he gonna film her? That's not nice. Look, he is! Don't you think he looks like Billy's youngest? He should do something different with his hair." ETC ETC ETC My sister applied the shushing, but it did not seem to matter. In a fit of rage, I hopped out of my seat and walked quickly the 7 or 8 rows that separated us. I leaned over the seat in the row in front of them and proceeded to tell them that if they felt like having a chat, they should go get coffee. Otherwise, I was going to talk to the manager.
They left.
It was one of the rudest things I've ever done in my life. I'm still embarrassed by it.
HOWEVER, I firmly believe that if I was in the same situation again, I would forego the shushing, and immediately have management come talk to the ladies.
Thank you, folks. I'll be here all week.

This. I also HATE IT when the person next to me has their phone out and is texting/surfing the 'net during the movie ... the light from the phone is distracting and annoys me.
Color me old and witchy, lol!!!
Movies are pricey ... if you want to chat/use your phone please leave the theater.

I don't do the theater, too many people. I will wait until something comes on TV, no matter how much I want to see it. Unless my son wants to take me to the theater, then I go because if he wants to take me, I'm going. LOL

You made me LOL envisioning you in your cute little accent getting all heated. I do agree that was incredibly rude of them and I would be furious too. This was not throughout the movie and was much more pure reaction.
My dad stops during the movie but I'm always waiting for the Cheryl Ashcraft in the theater to come for us.
