I have been weaning. From diet pepsi that is. DH tried cold turkey on Monday, and had to run out to the store today for pepsi, his head was so bad. I've been going down to 1-2 a day (down from my regular 6 a day) and my brain is killing me. I knew better than to do it cold turkey, I tried that before, but I didn't think this would be as bad.
Am I insane to be doing this when we are moving in 2 weeks, we don't have a house, and I am NOT ready? LOL

Yup, I'm pretty sure that's the definition of insanity. :)
One of my summer goals is to wean off Diet Coke, so I hear that, but I know better than to do that now when my life is in turmoil. :)

Weaning yourself off caffeine is HARD Jamie.
I would wait until after you move and have yourself somewhat settled. With all the packing and stuff you have to do, if you get a miserable migraine it'll just make things even more unbearable.

LOL, cold turkey definitely sucks bad! I was drinking 5-6 cokes a day, and just stopped one day...I had migraines for 2 full weeks. The first few days I really craved it and the headaches REALLY made me want to give in...BUT...after about day 4 I was like "hell no, I'm not giving in, because I'll just have to go through this again". So, I bared through it...it sucked, but I feel SO much better now! And I can have caffeine every once in a while without getting headaches the next day too, woot!

I've been trying too! Especially after talking to Bree about it one day in chat and now this recent chat about soda with Traci! I know I drink way to much and need to stop! But the headaches are killer! I am going to try to wean instead of the cold turkey thing. Not only do I get the headaches, I become a complete uh ummmm witch! LOL!

You had 6 cans a day?? I thought my 2 was bad. I want to quit, but I really do like the taste and feel of the bubbles...maybe I can switch to diet 7up or something. LOL

oh Jamie.. I would totally wait until after you move. When I worked at school, I would stop at Sonic EVERY morning and get a Route 44 cherry coke. It was ugly. Then, last may, when I quit the school.. I just quit. It was not good. LOL I have occ. caffeine now, but nothing like I used to do......

I cut myself back to 1 can of Coke per day, it was pretty rough to begin with, but each day gets better. I would not recomend it while moving, but if you have gone for a few days, don't turn bak now

I have a very nasty habit. I drink a 2-liter a day. Yes, you heard right...a full 2 liter. I drink nothing but Pepsi/Dr. Pepper.
It's really a disgusting habit because I know its probably got my insides tore up but I'm trying to wean off of it and get on Diet Dr. Pepper (cuz it tastes more like reg Dr. Pepper :D).
Ive quit once before and it was horrendous, like detoxing from cocaine or something...just bad. Unfortunately I ended up starting up again and now I'm trying to do it for good.
Ive attemped it several times and have turned into a major biotch with migraines that lasted 2-3 days at a time.
I'm hoping something works this time because I have to get off this stuff.:(

I have been an addict since I was about 10 years old, I seriously just plain LOVE Pepsi, and not just for the caffeine, I just love the taste. I get up and have a diet pepsi first thing in the morning. I did used to drink regular pepsi, but managed to switch to diet. THAT was hard LOL.
Ok, you all convinced me to wait. LMAO

I've been caffeine-free for 9 years!! :) I had to quit in highschool when I was diagnosed with Anxiety Disorder. I was drinking several Mr. Pibb's/Dr. Pepper's a day and the caffeine just exasterbated (sp?) my condition. So, I quit cold turkey. Haven't had it since.
ETA: for those of you wondering... yes, I still eat chocolate. If I have too much, I'll get a headache.

I tried cutting out caffine when I pregnant with DS1, didn't last out a week & chose to just cut back instead. I still drink half caff with lots of milk to this day but no caffine at all make me an angry & tense person, so it's better I stick with my 2 cups of coffee.
You have enough stress going on right now without adding to it. I'd suggest just cutting back to 3-4 instead of 1-2 until you move.

I cut out my daily Rt. 44 Vanilla Dr. Pepper. Now I might get one on the weekend. I started drinking ice tea and it has helped with the caffeine headaches.

Good luck! Weaning is probably a better idea than going cold turkey if you really want to do it now while you have all of your moving stuff ahead of you. Have you been subbing in some caff-free Diet Pepsi? Would that help you at all, at least emotionally? I know I just love drinking Diet Coke and get a little mood boost just from drinking the CF variety. Just drinking it, even without the caffeine, makes me feel good, KWIM?

i switched to caffeine free diet pepsi. I need the bubbles and taste. I've tried to give up soda but then I get a little crazed and end up calling DH begging him to stop at McD's for me on the way home.
good luck!

I don't think there is anything that could make me give up my caffeine... well, maybe if I was told I would die unless I quit. But I drink 2 cups of coffee in the morning and sometimes 1 or 2 sodas a day. There are some days I don't have soda at all if I have a vitamin water with me.

Ha! I just downed one of those! The line at Starbucks was too long so I went to McD's. I don't even try giving it up...I'll save it for later in life.

haha.. I'm going through this a bit too. I though I had the flu or something this week, and then had a Coke and was all better! I realized I hadn't had a coke in three days, and day two and three of that I had a massive headache, and was throwing up, and was physically SHAKING!!! so now I'm doing one every third day... hopefully I can cut down to once a week soon. :)
