View Full Version : Question about CT calls?

Ok, I was thinking of tossing caution to the wind and trying for a CT call....but I only curently have 4 LOs in my gallery...how badly do you think it'll affect me? I'm just afraid to try out because I'm still as most of you know "still finding myself" but I have the time, and the creativity I'd like to think. Was thinking maybe trying for a CT might make me more active perhaps? All of my 4 layouts are within the last month...think the earliest is dated...May 13th-ish? I dunno...what do you guys think...designers, how long do you expect CTs to have been doing scraps?

Well I'm not a designer but I will say that I would go for it if you want it! I always try for teams I want to be on... you never know unless you try. :)

I always tell people to just try. You never know what a designer is looking for until you try. And if they say no, you can ask them for some constructive criticism.

Honestly, I'd wait until you've got more in your gallery...so designers can see what your style is and if you'll mesh with theirs, kwim. (I'm saying this without having seen your gallery, cause I'm dumb and can't figure out how to find it by username...lmao). You can always try, though...some designers like taking on brand new scrappers because they are enthusiastic and have the time (unlike those with 3-4+ teams already)! :)

I will say this.. it's scary to put yourself out there like that... but it can really help you too, like Col said, you can ask for CC. I personally haven't done that yet, because well, I don't think I want the answer, but it's a good idea!!!

Oh, I'm not trying to discourage you from trying, either...just saying that some designers like to see a large gallery so they get a sense of "you". But then other times, all they need is a handful of layouts to make their decision, too! :)

I think it depends on the designer. I have "taken a chance" on one or two CT members of my own and they've turned out to be amazing team members! Some designers like to see a lot of layouts, some don't. Just depends! I wouldn't let it discourage you from applying to the teams you want to be on. Good luck!

I have an internal "dream gigs" and even if I think I suck, I try for them anyway, because you just never know. Some I've gotten (see my siggie) and some not, but you never know unless you try. I was at least two months before I was on any teams, and those I was on, I was asked to be on, not applied for. One of whom I still scrap for, Jen!

Honestly, it can't hurt to try, but honestly, rejection is difficult too. It's hard to put yourself out there and sometimes when it's your favorite designer, it is very discouraging.

Good luck whatever you choose to do, and just keep scrapping for fun. Most of us took awhile before we found who we "are" as scrappers, some of us are still evolving, and most of us took awhile before we were on any teams too.

I was JUST going to say this!! Mikkel was one of my first cts I ever applied for and I had MAYBE a hand full of layouts if that and she was kind enough to take me on and working with her has really helped me find my style and blossom. I heart being on her ct. I would def say go for it!

I always apply to teams that I want to be on. Sometimes I'm taken, sometimes I'm not. I always try and use it as a learning experience and a chance to hone my scrapping before the next call.

I waited to try for a CT until I was at least 6-months into digi but honestly I grew more as a scrapper being on a CT as it forces you to do LOs. Many of those first pages I did I have since redone as you contine to grow and learn in this hobby.

Even the best of scrappers get rejections...I think I have gathered 8 in the last month with 3 of them just in the past week. It's a tough pill to swallow but sometimes you will find that by putting yourself out there you can earn the spot on a team that really meets your style. Like I won an All About Me Challenge at Weeds & Wildflowers and I feel my scrapping just blossomed since being over there as a personal CT for Heidi & Gina. So be picky about who you decide to CT for, if it's not your style it can be hard to scrap with their stuff or maybe you don't know your style and want the challenge of developing it...so maybe Guest spots would be a better fit so you can sample a designer and see if you really like the whole CT thing!!!

Best of luck!!!

I've done it! I applied, and of course it wasn't just for someone random! It was to Amanda Heimann's CT! I love her style and designs! I'll probably sooo get turned down, because I'm sure so many talented girls applied but worth a shot right? I may go ahead and do something tonight to post in her gallery! I have her products but you know, I generally tend to open my SS folder when I start to make a LO simply because this is where I post my LOs.

Even for "seasoned" scrappers it is hard. There have been many teams that I have applied for and gotten the rejection letter. There have also been times when I have sat back and just enjoyed scrapping and not being committed as well. While you are waiting to hear back, dive in and do some challenges here at SSD. It will help build your gallery and give you a chance to practice.

I find it easiest to get layouts done by doing challenges. Very rarely do I just throw something together to finish the challenge. I started doing challenges way back in 2005 at ScrapMommies and continue to do them today.

Good luck, Ashley!

Just remember - be true to who you are. Don't apply to teams just because there is a call. You should want to buy everything in the store. At least that is my criteria. It makes it so much easier to meet your committments if you LOVE scrapping with the designer's stuff.

oh def! I considered that before applying! :) Dream teams! Such as, I love Jofia, but I would never go out for a call, i love Amanda's stuff because it's in line with me.

well, I can tell you that Kristin gave me a shot with her, with me only having two LOs in my gallery. hehehee
*I think it kinda helps that we are neighbors though, and friends outside of scrapping, but we never would have met without digi-land*
