I just bought ink cartridges and presentation paper from Staples, and it was 80.00!!!!
I usually get my inks from Ebay, 9.00 for both color and black. Staples was 59.00! and, I get my photo paper from Sam's Club, super cheap.
They both have worked well for me, but everyone say that the name brands are so much better.
So I'll make one hybrid project from each, I'll post it so everyone can else can see and decide wichich is better.
PS. Got a bunch of cute chipboard embellies from the $1 zone at Target!

This is exactly why I bought the Kodak 5500 printer. Ink is 9.99 for black, and 14.99 for color. I was spending a small fortune on ink cartridges.
I still use the Staples brand Satin paper which is pricey.

Honestly, it's one of the best printers I've ever had. I just had some pages printed professionally and compared them to the ones I printed... I couldn't tell. So then I asked so other people, which is professional? They all picked the Kodak printer prints!!!
So, here are the current diagnostics on my printer, these are TOTALS in the 4 months that I've had it.
Borderless pages 6288
Plain Paper 6487
4x6 65
8x10 426
Ink Cartridge Change (color) 3
Ink Cartridge Change (black) 2
Soooooooooooooooooo..... as you can see, I'm getting a TON of prints off of each cartridge....
My color cartridge is just about out, so I'll be putting in number 4 real soon.

Wow, when I'm in the market for a printer I might have to consider that one... but I'll get my ink from ebay! Right now I have to have DH do all my printing at his workplace... but the price is 5 cents for either colour or black and white on REALLY nice paper and they have a fabulous professional printer, so I can't really complain. He does 11x17 for me too. :)

*** Using compatibles would invalidate your warranty on your printer ***
But mine is old and so I don't care about that. Now I'm in the UK, this is (http://www.ukdvdr.co.uk/shop/Ink-Cartridges-c-103.html)where I get my inks for my Epson. I pay less than £1 for my colour cartridge. I don't know if they ship to the US but I'm sure if you do a search for cheap ink cartridges or compatible printer ink etc. you would find somewhere in the US.
I did try a few brands before I was happy with the quality of the colours for my photographs but as they were so cheap it wasn't a problem. I've used compats for about 2 years now.

Yeah, that's why I quit printing pics at home. HP cartridges are $19-29 each. I'd rather let Kodak or York print them and pay for shipping.

Oh Lord, you don't EVEN WANT TO KNOW what I spent a few months ago when all the cartridges decided to run out at the same time on my color laser printer. Before I say, I will preface by saying that the color laser is DA BOMB! I've had it for over three years, printed THOUSANDS of full sheets of color pages, I can't even imagine how much ink that would have been with an ink jet. The printer holds 4 cartridges: three color and one black. So, even after spending over $500 (eeks) to replace the cartridges, I wouldn't chage a thing. If you knew how much I've printed off that thing, you'd think it was a steal! And, since its a laser, I don't ever have to worry about sealing my projects, etc because laser is permanent and won't run like ink from an ink jet.

I'd love to be able to buy a laser printer.
I buy my compatible inks on ebay.
Just do a search for ink cartridges for your printer.

My husband and I have been looking into the Continuous Ink Systems (http://www.shutterbug.net/equipmentreviews/paper_ink/0706output/). They really intrigue us, but we have to see what our printing schedules are like AFTER college. That Kodak 5500 sounds pretty good though...
We've also thought about laser, but we don't know what our printing will be after school. It may increase since I'll actually have time for hybrids instead of just drooling over them. Our current printer (HP) has been wonderful, and prints beautifully, but after running 350 wedding invitations and a lot of photos of and for said occasion, it doesn't like thick paper, so we can use it for school, but not as much for fun anymore.

Doing some research on the Kodak website:
Do you suppose that the Kodak Easyshare 5100 would have the same printing quality, minus some of the bells and whistles of fax machine, card readers, display screen?
Also, we've never had a printer with a display screen. Is it really more convenient than just loading your pictures onto your computer? Ours is pretty fast to load pictures, and I've always found that the computer screen helps me find the small things better than the display on the camera. Have you ladies found this useful?

Canon is no better! My Canon takes 6 cartridges that are about $14 each (except the black which is ever more). Ouch.
