All of this press on Mamma Mia is making me wanna go see it...a strange and little known fact about Tabatha and I...we LOVE musicals. We often used to put Rent or Chicago on while we were scrapping...we love musicals so much that when Tristan was going through a blues clues phase, we watched Blues Big Musical more than any of the others ;)

So what is your favorite song from a musical? Share it with me so I can go listen! I have a lot of favorites but this one takes the cake:

Cell Block Tango from Chicago (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hm2qXT5JcQA)

My kids are obsessed with the Sound of Music, so we have been listening to that one a lot. I love it, but I'm almost getting sorry I decided to share it with them because I'm not sure I can take Climb Every Mountain one more time. :)

My favorite right now is You Can't Stop the Beat from Hairspray. At least I think that's what it's called.

West Side Story: I Feel Pretty and Jet Song
Fiddler on the Roof: Sunrise, Sunset
Paint Your Wagon: Wand'rin Star

And, pretty much every song from The Sound of Music (http://www.amazon.com/Sound-Music-1965-Film-Soundtrack/dp/B000BFNZAQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1216300836&sr=1-1)and Oklahoma!

'Seasons of Love' and/or 'I'll Cover You' from Rent
'Without Love' from Hairspray
'Carryin the Banner' from Newsies

I'm a musical freak so I have about a million favorites. But I'd have to say that my favorite over-all soundtrack is from Hairspray with Rent coming in a close second. The musical "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" also holds a very special place in my heart because my family watched it when I was a kid, as well as Paint Your Wagon.
((special shout-out to Michelle.... "and they call the wind, Mariah...")) lol

Oh Jenny! I LOVE Seven Brides for Seven Brothers!! Haven't watched it in years though. Also love Hairspray, Grease, Oklahoma, Sound of Music, etc etc etc. I do love a good musical.

Side note here... WHAT exactly is Mama Mia about? My dd (age 10) wants to see it based on the previews, but I don't even have the slightest idea if it's appropriate for that age group?

Libby, I have SBFSB on digitallyematstered DVD! Its so fab!! As far as Mama Mia goes, its about a girl who is getting married. And she wants to find out who her real father is so he can give her away. All the songs are from ABBA and are so fab! I think it'd be perfect for your DD, but I'd check commonsensemedia.org just to be safe.

The Miss Saigon soundtrack is fantastic...the production is too...would LOVE to see it again! Fave tracks: "Why God Why", "I Still Believe", "Bui Doi", "The Fall of Saigon", and "Now That I've Seen Her."
I'm also a big Rodgers & Hammerstein fan...I love State Fair (the Dana Andrews/Jeanne Crain version) and "It Might as Well be Spring", "Isn't It Kind of Fun?", and "Grand Night for Singing."
And of course have to say Oklahoma, especially now that I live here LOL. I'm looking forward to taking Rachel & DH to Discoveryland to see it live in a couple of years. They put it on every summer, and I'd love to see it. Amazing to me that DH is 55 years old, has lived here 54 yrs, and never once seen the movie or live version. Tsk tsk.

As Annie would say, "I think I'm gonna like it here..."

I am a musical theater FREAK. Yes, a freak b/c my love extends beyond seeing them. I have been in a number of musicals, as well as produced and directed a number of musicals. I am the musical theater geek.

As for favorites, I have tons, but these stand out:
Children of Eden - check it out, emotionally stirring
Anything sung by Patti Lupone is genius.
Hairspray is an all around amazing musical in the theather as well as a movie.
and as of late I am obsessed with Legally Blonde. I think that it's a musical that will come to define this time in history.

Those are just a few, I could go on and on about Guys and Dolls, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, and others....

Libby, I don't know how savvy your daughter is, but there is a lot sexual innuendo it Mamma Mia. I mean, the main premise is that the mother could have slept with any of a number of these men (and obviously never married any of them). And then some of them hook up with the mother's friends (if I remember correctly) when they all get back together for the wedding. So, I think it depends on the kid and what you are comfortable with.

gosh I can't believe no one has mentioned Phantom yet! So far besides Grease and Annie that's really the only one I have totally gotten in to but I am going to get some others on netflix.

We are musical fanatics too! I love tons of the songs mentioned but I have to say I LOVE LOVE LOVE (and am shocked it wasn't mentioned) the songs from Jesus Christ Superstar (which, besides Cats, is one of my FAVORITE musicals of all time). I'm a huge ALWebber fan and love just about all of his songs anyway.

You'll catch me singing "I Don't Know How to Love Him," "What's the Buzz," "Everything's Alright," and of course, "Superstar"

I also love "They Say It's Wonderful" from Annie Get Your Gun (and other songs from it) various songs from The King & I, Tommy, West Side Story, The Wiz, South Pacific... OK, I just realized this isn't a good question to ask me. I can't narrow it down!

Now I wanna go see a musical. I haven't been to one in a while (well we took the kids to The Lion King and that was the last one we went to).

I'm a Stephen Sondheim fanatic, so I would recommend anything of his, but especially Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, and Assassins. Assassins has some course language, so it's maybe not for little kids, but the music is amazing!

Lydia, Into the Woods is amazing...I saw it about six years ago on Broadway with Vanessa Williams in the witch role...I was so close I could see her spit (I don't sit anywhere but orchaestra). It was truly incredible.

And Megan...we are going to see Mary Poppins in three weeks..I am totally psyched. While we are there, we are going to pick up tickets to take our oldest to see Little Mermaid..It will be her first!

Well, I'm jealous Sir Scrapalot. I have yet to see a show on Broadway. But, I've seen a few productions of Into the Woods. It is such a fun show! I could go on and on about Musical Theater. It is one of my other obsessions (besides digi scrapping). Most people just think I'm a freak.

Absolutely anything from Les Mis, Phantom, or Sound of Music.

I don't think you are a freak, maily b/c I am one too. My wife and I honeymooned in NYC, we like it so much. Over the years, I have seen almost ten shows on Broadway. All of them have their own wonderful components, it's rare that I see one I don't like...although...Cabaret was a bit wierd. And it was at Studio 54...and it was with John Stamos...my wife still talks about how she saw John Stamos' butt.
