Rachel Young's frayed fabric templates are only $1 over at SBG today for deal of the day. Anyone have them? Love them/hate them?

Anyone? Anyone? :)

Well I have some by Zstampf and I've use them a lot... but don't know about Rachel's... but $1 is a pretty good deal for a good designer...

They look cute! I don't shop there, so I won't be picking them up, but that seems like a great deal! :)

I was about to link you to one of my layouts here that used them, but then I realized that I ended up using Tracy Ann's instead. Not because Rachel's weren't nice, but I think Tracy's just fit the layout better. Rachel's are definitely a steal at $1! I mean, with any of these you're just basically clipping your paper or whatever to them, but it's great having the different shapes, sizes and frayedness (that's soooo not a word, lol) in your layering arsenal.

I think that for $1, I'll have to give them a try, lol. I just can't pass up $1!

I have used Dani's from her Scrappers Toolbox - Shape it Up. I used the circle, that was a nice one too.

Nope, I never shop there. Just forget that it's there! *lol*

I have Leora's, though, and like 'em.

*lol* Not that that helps you AT ALL.

I haven't used them much just because I don't think about it....here's a layout with them though. This wasn't actually from the template, but she made the templates around the time this came out, so it's basically the same. My shadows stink on the frayed stuff--that's my only problem!

They look similar to some brushes I got at Scrap Girls that I use sometimes.

Will this action work in Photoshop Elements? It says it has only been tested in Photoshop CS.

I really like them but I don't want to buy them if I can't use them.

I'm pretty sure it does NOT work in elements.

ETA: the template part does and I guess the action isn't necessary! :) so you're good!

Leora Sanford has some at Little Dreamer that will work in Elements. I have some of hers.

I really like them but I don't want to buy them if I can't use them.As far as I remember, the action really just clips the layer above to the fabric template, but I'll have to double check that.

On Rachel's blog she has a freebie and when I downloaded it, there was a coupon for her in store as well... not sure if it works with sale items though.

I have them, but I cannot for the life of me, get a nice looking shadow on frayed edges, so I don't use them :(

I did have Leora's as well, same problem.

It's definitely user error over here, so if anyone has any tips for shadows, I'd love to hear it!

Jamie are you able to warp a shape? I can't remember whatprogram/version you're using.

If it's PS and not PSE/PSP whatever, make a new layer below the fabric. Then select the fabric (marching ants) and on the new empty layer use the paint bucket to fill it with the shadow color (black/grey/brown/whatever). Go to free transform, and then up at the top click on the curved arrows (warp). Then you can move different portions to get a good shadow on it. Plus a gaussian blur.

Col - you are sorta naughty. I don't even know if I have a need for fabric... but I had to buy them. Cuz they were a dollar.

Yeah - I'm this dangerous in brick and mortar bargin stores also.

I'm using CS3, so I can warp LOL

Thanks for the tip Col! If I start putting fabric in all my LOs, I blame you :D

I have Rachel's and the action isn't really necessary. It just clips the layers together and you could do that quite easily yourself.

I have some of Leora's too. I have all sorts of templates like this but have come to conclusion I am too lazy to use them most of the time.
