Anyone else here own a Jeep Grand Cherokee or some other Chrysler (thanks for the correction Dawn) vehicle and has about had it up to HERE with the maintenance issues??

Out latest problem with our 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee...on the way home from a road trip on Sat the driver's side window just fell down. Apparently the window regulator/motor just decided to die. When we purchased this vehicle in 1999 all of the power windows had to be replaced within 3-months of us getting this vehicle. Luckily it was under warranty so there was no out of pocket expense for us. We've had problems with the back window latch, the tumblers in the ingnition, the brakes and the a/c usually goes to the defrost when you are going over 70 mph not to mention a few other annoying issues. Most of these things happened while the vehicle was under warranty, but a few have been out of pocket expenses. This latest issue would cost $450 for just ONE motor. I found the part online for $90 and DH is going to replace it for free. That is a huge savings!

On a side note we also have a 1999 Toyota Camry and can I just say that besides general maintenance we've had ZERO defects with our Toyota.

We are selling our Jeep next year and we are diehard Toyota fans from now until the end. Okay I am off my soap box now.

Aww man, I'm sorry you've had so many problems. We're a GM family here and so far we've been quite fortunate. We had a Chrysler LHS before we moved to Germany and I LOVED my grandma car. We sold it to DH's cousin and it's still running strong.

We now own a Dodge Grand Caravan and a Jeep Wrangler and adore both. My parents have a Dodge Ram and a Chrysler 300M and I think both of their's are doing pretty good too. BUT, I will say that before our GM cars I was a die hard Nissan fan... so there is something to be said for other manufacturers.

'Hope your car troubles are soon a thing of the past!

Um, I don't think Jeep is a GM car. It was owned by AMC a long time ago, but then was bought years and years ago by Chrysler, which is not a GM brand. Chrysler is part of Mercedes now.

I do own a GM car -- a Chevy Tahoe. It is 8 years old and has 95,000 miles on it and I have never had to do anything other than replace worn brakes and a new battery.

[sorry, had to stick up for GM!]

Also, sorry to hear about your car woes. I know how incredibly frustrating it can be! I had a VW Rabbit a long time ago that was a total lemon and always had the same recurring problem (the starter would go). I eventually just scrapped it because I couldnt' take it any more!

Yeah, Dawn is right. Jeep is a Dodge, not a GM. :)

And yes, I have been so unfortunate with my Jeeps and Chrysler's :(

I thought that didn't sound right... but I AM on drugs at the moment. ROFL Dodge & Jeep are Chrysler products. lol

Here's a link a forum I found that led me to find the part and I found several others with the same maintenance issues:

my mom has had her jeep forever. its a '95. she has had some problems with it but still has it. She recently just bought an '05 Pontiac G6. (Which I covet, lol.) She just keeps her jeep for winter now, since it's much better in the snow than the G6.

hope your car issues are done. I hope when my warranty runs out on my Escape I won't have too many issues. So far other than my windows doing what yours is, i haven't had any other problems.

My husband works on cars and he despises jeeps. He says they are rust-buckets. Probably has alot to do with the owners going muddin' though I suppose. He (and I) love dodge and we own a 97 Dodge Stratus which has been a fairly good car *knock on wood* I would rather have another Nissan though. We had a 94 Nissan Pathfinder which was driving great when my husband got into an accident and it was totalled. It had nearly 250,000 miles on it. Our Dodge is over 200,000 right now

Also I think there is a quick fix to your window motor and Ill ask my husband when he gets home. I know there are some window motors which can be taken apart and you do something and itll fix them. If not though why not buy a window motor from a junkyard. Alot of times you can get them super cheap. (like we bought our transmission for 150 dollars and it was from a low miles Breeze as compared to rebuilding ours for several hundred from a friend of the family or a new one over 1000 dollars) and alot of times they will give you a warranty for like 90 days on the motor

I own a 2005 Chrysler T&C, and have not had any problems with it. Just basic stuff like tire rotations, oil changes, new brake pads. All that comes with wear and tear. I got the 100K mile warranty when I bought it, but haven't had to use it yet.

Sorry, I like Chrysler. :)

Jeeps are so cute. I wish I could afford one...

I have my new lil' Chevy Aveo that is working GREAT for me. Since it has some of the best mileage out there in the market, I keep seeing more and more of them on the road every day. :)

I still miss my Geo Metro hatchback, though. When I was in college, I could fill her up for $12, and it would last me all week. I think I got almost 150,000 miles out of her before I gave her to a friend.

^lol, I don't think its possible to fill up any car nowadays for $12! My Escape isn't too bad, but it's a 4 cylinder. I wish i had gotten a 6. and i would LOVE a new Hybrid Escape! I've been eying those totally cute Chevy Cobalts. I've seen a couple here intown that are totally pimped out; with dark tint and racing stripes. they are awesome and good on gas. don't know if my 3 kids will fit in one though.

I had a 99 Grand Cherokee til 05 and LOVED IT. Just had to upgrade as more kiddos came along lol

I also had a 94 Saturn until we sold it 2 years ago and I think besides our 05 Tahoe we have now, that I will forever be a Saturn owner (both GMs). We sold it to a family for an extra car, and it had 294,000 miles on it!

Ok - SERIOUSLY!
I had a Geo Metro (in the standard "blue") and no joke! I often was getting 50+ mpg in that little Car!
And really - I would LOVE an Aveo. In fact, we're looking (again) at new cars, and instead of upgrading to one of the cross over cars, I'm trying to convince my DH that I NEED an Aveo. and he can keep his compact car. And we'll just take 2 vehicles to family functions. We each can have a kid. I'll take the dog. Perfect solution, right?
But really - I'd love to have a cute Aveo (heh - or even a Cobalt)

However, in relation to this thread - we're actually considering either the Jeep Compass or Patriot. Are just the older version of the late model Jeeps crap? or is there really no hope at all?

I have some friends with Jeeps and they all complain .... and one had to use the Lemon Law to replace hers! Yikes! I've actually never owned an American car. I've only had Japanese or German cars ... but my Audi was no gem, lol (I had an A6 and it turned into a money pit after 50k). I've been really happy with my Lexus. Hopefully the window motor was just a fluke! I'm glad you found a cheaper window motor.

We are heavy GM/Chevrolet owners here, we'll never own anything else, but back when I was in high school, my dad had a Jeep Cherokee. It was a thrill to ride (it was a standard) and I loved it. I drove that sucker everywhere, off roading, everything. I loved it, and always assumed it was a good vehicle. Dad had it for over 10 years, and we wore it out.

Sorry you're having so much trouble!

i have a saturn outlook (well the chevy version...same ole GM machine) and its not too good. go with the odyssey...it'll last you forever. it was just rated 91 out of a 100 in consumer reports. the gm van wasn't even in the report, cause it sucks. :p LOL!!

I miss my Jeep Grand Cherokee :( . Dh took it over when baby #2 was born and I got a van. We've had ours for 6 years now and it has had few issues. I still drive it in the winter when I go to work for the 4WD. Living in Michigan half of our families work for one of the big 3 so we've always had a GM or Dodge/Jeep, we aren't big ford fans.
