View Full Version : How Best to Get a Perfect Hole for this Album?

Hi Ladies:

I have a silly question - What is the best way to cut holes in a photo to mount it an album like this one:

http://www.embellish-online.com/images/ALB955_QuarterPint.jpg

How can I get the photo on the page and still have the metal circle around the punched hole show and not have the hole be too big or too small? Is there a way to do this? Can a crop-a-dile work wonders for this purpose? I have not bought one yet and I'm trying to figure out if I should get one. Would you just try to cut a hole exactly the size of the outer ring? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm stuck.

Thanks.

The cropodile would be PERFECTION for this!

No, the hole isn't big enough on the crop-o-dile, unfortunately. :( The best way would be to use an exacto knife and cut around the grommets.

Yup, what Bree said. :)

I've had better control with a fingertip craft knife- http://store.scrapbook.com/f-12-6305.html

Takes some practice, but it's not too hard......good luck!!

I'd measure the hole with the ring around it and try to find a hole punch the same size b/c my craft knife skills are sad.

Unfortunately there isn't a big enough hole punch for that, the only way is what Bree suggested - a craft knife and it's not really much fun :(

I went searching for one and even asked around when I bought some of the cosmo cricket albums and everywhere I went or everyone I asked said NOPE. I'd love to find one, you'd think they would have thought about that when they made the albums that way but I guess they think everyone is a pro with the knife (and I'm so not)!

Wow-This is all news to me, I have yet to run into an album where my cropodile isn't perfect...Sorry for the bad advice...I hope you get it worked out hon!

The crop-o-dile only has 2 sizes for hole punching - 1/8 and 3/16 (I think - something like that anyway). The holes in the BG albums are HUGE, lol...plus then the grommets are even bigger. You could use the crop-o-dile if you didn't care if the grommets showed (and didn't care if your punched hole was smaller than the hole of the album), but if you want them to show, the only way to do it is with an exacto.

Argh!!!!!! :cursing: Just as I feared! I have the exacto knife and I was thinking about cutting the holes but I just know it's gonna look terrible. If only there existed a hole punch that size. Thanks everyone for the input, I really appreciate it, I didn't want to start cutting if there were a better answer...

Mimi - It's 9/16 of an inch, that's about how big I'd need to punch a hole that would fit over the metal rim.

I'm not sure what 9/16 is in mm but the Japanese Screw Punch has a bit that is 4mm in size. I love my screw punch, I've got bits from 1.0mm to 4.0mm for it and it's just as good as a Crop-A-Dile for hole punching. :)

ETA:

I did some research and I guess there are even bigger holes! 5mm. Here is a link to the punch and 9 bits for $77 which is a great price because the punch alone is around $39.99 and the bits are anywhere from $5-8 a piece.

Hi! I have this album and I use my Stampin' Up 1/2 inch circle punch and it looks great! Which is weird. I never measured the hole on the album. If it's 9/16, then it technically should be 1/16 bigger than the punch, but it seems to fit great with no paper overlap. Maybe I just got a defective album or punch???
