Yesterday was my niece's wedding - she's like a little sister to me as I was only 15 when she was born. As I grew up, she practically lived at our house (with my parents) until my Mom passed away in 94. After that, my husband and I always managed to "need" her to babysit for us so that we knew she had money in her pocket to do things with her other teenage friends, even though we couldn't afford it. We'd pay her to come babysit and we'd go somewhere for coffee or go walk around the mall or a Walmart for a few hours. She came from a family of 5 kids and was the oldest so most of the time when she needed money, the answer was "we just don't have it". Don't get me wrong, my brother and his 2nd wife (his first wife abandoned him and the 4 kids - when the kids all were under the age of 5) provided well for them, there just wasn't money for extras. As she grew into a young adult, I do not get to see her as much as I would like. :(
anywho.... it was a very emotional day for me. My Mom would have been so proud of Amanda on her wedding day. She's found an extraordinary man to share her life with. Her husband asked her to marry him using my Mom's engagement ring and their wedding rings yesterday were my Mom and Dad's rings. I had my Mom and Dad's cake knife from their wedding that I cleaned up for her to use and I FORGOT IT AT HOME!!! It was going to be a surprise so atleast I didn't disappoint her. I cried a zillion times yesterday. LOL Adding to the emotions of the day was the fact that we just found out 2 weeks ago that my Dad has prostate cancer and that it has metastasized to his bones.
I was a bit disappointed that my daughter wasn't in the wedding but I understood the reasons why she wasn't - and trust me, Taylor had a blast NOT being in it LOL... After seeing my niece with her twin brother's new babies and her best friends little ones, I know I did a great job at being an aunt because I see her doing the exact same things for them as I did for her when she was little. Always taking them everywhere with her and doing things with them.
So, you can see why it was an emotional day for me.... *sigh* feels good to "get it out"....
