I *think* my initial backup finally completed, but I can't tell! It took about 3 weeks... I left town when the status window was reading about 81% complete. I was gone for four days, so I figured I'd be done when I got home, but I got some kind of failure window when I checked.
When I go to my account on the Mozy site, it shows my computer and says the size is 537GB. Does that mean Mozy has stored 537GB and I'm all set up now? How can I tell what is actually backed up? Can you see a list of the files? The last message in my console log says "Mozy Backup Crashed."
I think I'm being paranoid, but my plan is to move all these files off my hard drive once they're safely backed up and just work off the copies on my EHD. I have so much money invested in scrap files that I'm obsessing about when it's actually safe to delete them from my home computer!

I don't use Mozy but if your backup came off your hard drive, won't the files be deleted off Mozy eventually if you delete them from your hard drive?

Yeah, you can't remove them from the HD that you backed up or it thinks you no longer need them and removes them from Mozy after so long. If you wanted to work off your EHD, you should have moved them to your EHD first and then backed up - the other way, Mozy doesn't have the ability to "find" the files on your EHD if it doesn't know they're there. KWIM?
I don't know for sure about the crash part though. I just know about the moving files thing...you can't move them once they're backed up or else it has to back them up again (though after the initial backup, moving a *few* files will only take a few minutes to back up instead of weeks) and it will delete the original "missing" files.

I should have said that there were already on the EHD. I'm so paranoid that I already have them backed up to EHD. Mozy is to back up my back up. Does that make sense?
How can you tell for sure that everything is backed up on Mozy? If it lists the total files on the Mozy site, does that mean I'm good to go?

I fyou see all your files on Mozy, you should be fine. Maybe just manually start a Mozy backup really quick and see if it needs to backup more.

I'm definitely showing my ignorance... How can I see my files? I only see the name of the computer that's backed up (which includes my EHDs.)

As I understand it Karen, you have to keep the files from the ORIGINAL spot that you had Mozy copy them from (which you said was your regular hard drive). If you want the original files to be from your EHD, then you had to have Mozy copy them from there. If you remove the original files, then Mozy thinks the files aren't needed and deletes them... even if you have them in a different location.
But, as for the what files does Mozy have backed up... I don't know the answer. I'd like to know how to figure that out too. I'm nowhere near being completed, but I'd like to see how far I am.

When I configured my original backup, I did include my EHDs, so I would assume they're part of the initial upload... Actually, they'd have to be because Mozy is calculating 537GB of stuff to backup, which is more than my entire hard drive on my Mac. It's definitely including the copies on my EHD. Basically, I was telling it to back the stuff up twice, knowing that I'd eventually delete the copy on my hard drive.
I'm wondering if part of why I can't see stuff, too, is that the Mozy for Mac option doesn't seem to have the same features as what a PC user must get.

Open up Mozy as if you were going to do a backup... hit the CONFIGURE button. Then it will take a minute to load and you'll get a window where you can view the drives and folders backed up on the Mozy site. I can search through it just like when I search for files on my computer.

That's the secret!! I've done that, but didn't realize it was showing me what was on Mozy. I thought it was showing the files from my computer it was *going* to back up. :-D

So how do you know what is left to backup? It's estimate was a looong time and I don't think it's completed because it is constantly backing stuff up. But looking at that list is just like looking at my hard drive directory and I don't see anything missing. I don't think I like Mozy's interface. LOL

How much does it say is backed up? And how long is left? I don't know how to tell how much more you have to go... sorry. But I do know that Configure window only shows what *is* backed up because when I look in my SSD kit folder, my purchases from this morning aren't on there b/c it hasn't backed up since yesterday.

Where do I find that? (man I feel stupid! LOL) It's been backing up for over a month and I don't think I'm done. I think my estimate was like 3 months??

When your files are backing up, you know that Mozy window? It should say how many GB are backed up so far.

ummmm.... mine starts at zero every time it is backing up.

At the bottom of my screen, it says 306.3GB and 103008 files... but I thought that was how many that I want it to back up, not how many it actually HAS backed up. I think that was about the same as the first day that I started.

I don't know, Julie. lol

Thanks Megan for your help  I kept poking around where you said and it says 304.6... so maybe I'm really close to being completely backed up! I'm excited if that is true! :)
