i have had some comments on some of my layouts about my black and white photos, how they wish they could do it. well, you can. it's a free action! Its called B's Vanilla B&W II and you can get it at ATNCentral (http://www.atncentral.com/download.htm). Scroll down to the Black and White Conversions and it's the fourth one down. I usually edit my photos how i want them before i use it. Usually i use blending modes; screen and soft light. then i use the action. when its done you'll have several layers still, two adjustment layers that you can play with, though i usually leave these alone, and a contrast layer that sometimes i use sometimes i delete, and a B+W layer and the original photo layer. when you get it how you want it merge them and voila! i love this action. its a little soft chocolatey brown and cream instead of just black and white.

just thought i'd share.

i use PSE 6. i don't know what other programs it'll work on.

Thanks for the link. I will have to check this out. I mainly use the actions from Pioneer Woman but I still haven't perfected my B&W photos.

For the life of me, i still can't figure out how to add these kind of actions to PSE 6. I read the instructions and my eyes cross  .

Christine, I use it in PSE 5 and it works perfectly!

I'm thinking that PW's actions say that they'll only work in PS, not Elements. I looked at hers one day and I thought that's why I didn't get any of them. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.

I am thinking for some reason that she had a few that DID work with Elements but I may be way wrong!!!!!

Cool action, thanks Corey!!

I don't think PW's current free action set works in PSE at all, just CS2/CS3. I remember her posting that she was going to eventually have a set that will work in PSE but as far as I know she hasn't finished them yet.

I scrap with PSE 3 and I got it to work but you have to make your own PSD file. Years ago when Holly McCaig gave a free action through the DST insider (it was only suppose to work in PSCS and higher) I wrote a little tutorial on how to get it to work in PSE if your interested I can post it for anyone that wants it, just let me know!!!

ETA: I should clarify that it doesn't work for all PSCS actions, PSE is still pretty limited in it's abilities. But as long as you can do each step in PSE (someway) the actions will work.
