So i decided that for my moms christmas gift i think i'll get her some handmade soaps. i've been looking on etsy and i'm overwhelmed with all the selections! i called her and asked her what her favorite scents are. she likes fruity, sweet scents and she says she likes this chocolate scented soaps that bath and body works has. so i was searching on Etsy for chocolate scented soaps. there are a lot! i wish i could scratch and sniff my monitor, lol. i don't wanna get something that stinks. most of the bars run around $4. not too bad. i was planning on getting myself something too, and probably get her some yummy body cream too. So, anyone know of any yummy handmade soap shops out there? that aren't too much money? it doesn't have to be etsy, but i like the idea of a small, homemade little store.

thanks!

This is my absolute favorite place for natural soaps, lotions, etc.

http://www.northernessence.com/

They have wonderful products, and the scents are heavenly. My favorites are lavendar and ginger peach. They close Dec. 12, though, so get your order in before then.

thanks! they look yummy! i found a place through etsy and they had a buy 3 bars for $12 so i picked Chocolate Bliss, Vanilla Bean Supreme and a Pumpkin Spice. my moms getting the chocolate for sure, but i can't decide if i want to keep one of the other ones for myself or both, lol!! i might try the place you mentioned too.

Emma has very sensitive skin. she keeps breaking out dry patches/rash on her bum and parts of her legs and wierd splotches on her belly and chest. my oldest had eczema when she was younger and she only got the dry patches on the backs of her knees and inner elbows, so i'm not sure what the issue is with Emma. i can't pinpoint what she may be allergic to, as i've not tried anything new lately. she goes to the doctor next week, but i may try to find her an all natural soap here.

A guy in my office makes natural soaps with his wife and they smell fab! They have a chocolate sage, but my favorite is the coffee caramel cream. They also make pet soaps. The site is AtirNaturals.com and they're based here in Ohio.

i just looked at this site again. i wanted to get her a whipped body cream but i didnt see the chocolate scent. well, she will custom make things for you! she has a list of all her scents on her profile page. so i just messaged her to ask if it was any extra for her to make some whipped body cream in the same chocolate scented soap i'm getting for my mom. its $10 for a 4 oz container, yikes, but i bet is worth it. i love homemade stuff!

My husband makes all our soap... it is yummy!! Best soap I have ever used! We started out doing just citrus scented (my fav) but we are starting to branch out a little. :)

I bought from this shop on etsy...OMG, their stuff smells SO good. I got the chocolate body wash, not a bar of soap, but seriously MMMM...desish...

(I'd also bought the strawberry scented shampoo/conditioner as a gift for a friend, and it smells DIVINE).

ETA: I'm very tempted to buy more random scents, lol. Like the Tahitian Vanilla and the Cotton Candy, lol

Well, I don't know all the details about it.. I don't think I have ever watched him do it. He makes it outside on a hot plate. He mixes a bunch of different oils (coconut, olive, etc) and lye in precise measurements, and slowly heats and stirs it till its "just right" (which takes a few hours), adds in some coloring and scent, and pours into a mold, lets cool, then cuts it into bars. That is what I know... there could be other stuff to it that I don't know! lol

I have heard that you can buy some kind of "blank" soap that you can melt, add your own scent and pour it into molds.... seems like cheating to me. heheh :p
