Jeeze this thing is HOT!

My laptop cooling pad gave out yesterday. I never realized how hot they get, but I'm sitting here with my it actually ON my lap and OMG, it's HOT!

Instead of shutting all the way down I usually put it on Hibernate when I go to bed. This morning I found that, somehow, it had restarted itself and, because the lid was closed, the mousepad was practically burning my finger.

It could be my imagination, but it seems to be running a bit slower too.

Is this normal?

i don't have a cooling thingy, but my laptop does get pretty hot on my lap. i try to shut my down most nights, though i do forget. i'll have to try one of those cooling pads i think. i don't use the touch pad. i use my trusty microsoft trackball mouse. love that thing!

The cooling pad is a tad cumbersome when you're trying to move everything together, but it's SO much nicer than having a slab of hot air on your lap for hours. lol

Since it's so cold now I don't have to run my cooling pad as often. yay :glare:. and I use the heat from the laptop to keep my fingers warmer.

If my laptop gets too hot it just shuts down.

I bought a little lap desk to set my laptop on so I don't have to feel the heat. It's not a cooling pad, but it works.

I do know that mine gets to the point where I have to take a break because it gets so warm if I'm not using the desk.

Laura...just be careful, I have heard stories of people getting burns from their laptop on their laps because they got too hot.

I have a Dell, so I have a cooling pad b/c there was that thing a few months back that some of the older Dell batteries were catching on fire. I figure better safe than sorry.

I remember my laptop steaming my legs when I would use and when I had my old one it would definitely run slower when it got hotter. Never tried a cooling pad with it.

Count me in on the burned user! My mom was in the hospital and I was waiting for HOURS to find out what was wrong with her...so had my laptop on my lap and scrapping...kept thinking it felt warm on one knee (it was summer and I was wearing shorts)...but I was distracted by all that was going on around me. Later I looked down and I had a small blister on my knee! The nurse that came in to give me an update on my mom was surprised...and sent me off to the drug store to buy a special kind of band-aid to make sure it would help it go down and not get infected if it burst. The warranty company did replace something due to it heating up so hot...it was burning the Microsoft sticker off the bottom of the laptop!

I now use a folding desk I bought...and it works really good...I also have a different laptop now and it doesn't seem to get as hot.

WOW! I guess it's good to hear there's nothing wrong with my lappie, but dang, actual burns? That's insane.
