... for a family at my church. Paul Scott, the father of six children ages 5-18, is dying. He has ALS (also known as Lou Gerhig's Disease) and it has progressed fast. Earlier this month he was put on a ventillator and then suffered from staph infections. He was released in time to see his youngest three children perform in our church's Christmas Play (he cried the whole time).
I just got a call that his wife put him in hospice care today.
He doesn't have long and they're not expecting him to live to Christmas. Its so heartbreaking because, while he's ready to leave this Earth and spend eternity with Jesus, he's not ready to leave his wife (I've never met a couple more in love), and six children.
So please, if you pray... please pray for the Scott Family: Paul and Jacqueline, David, Coyote, Anakin, Tabitha, Maya, and Sarah.
Thanks girls. My heart is just breaking today. We knew this was coming, but now that its here, I don't really know how to deal with it. I've taught the youngest three Scott kids in sunday school for years now and I've gotten pretty close with Jacqueline. I'm just beside myself.

My thoughts & prayers are with them Jenny. My Uncle passed away this summer from ALS. It is a horrible disease.

I'm so sorry Jenny. We lost my grandfather a few years ago right after New Year's. I'm so sad that he's progressing this quickly and won't get one last holiday season with the family he loves so dearly.
I'm sending all the prayers I can muster.

Yes, ALS is a terrible disease. One of my dad's best friends (the one that helped bring him to the Lord), died a few years ago from the same disease. He left behind two teenage sons and a wife.
Our family does the ALS walk every year now in honor of Mike. Now we'll add Paul and hopefully someday there will be a treatment or even a cure for this senseless disease.

this is awful. thanks for giving it to us Jenny so we can pray, too. Maybe it's selfish of me to hope he can stay on Earth one more week and make it through Christmas, but I can't help it. To think that the children, esp. the older ones who understand fully what is happening, will have to miss their father on this holiday breaks my heart. I am praying so hard for the whole family!

So sad - and it really puts things in perspective. We all rush around, a little stressed about the holidays, but there are people that are going through tragic circumstances like this and it's truly heartbreaking.
I will definitely say prayers and send good thoughts up for this family.

My thoughts are with him and his family. My aunt died of ALS and it is very difficult.
I'm sorry.

I just talked to Pauls mother-in-law. Paul probably won't make it through the night. He's on large amounts of morphine for the pain and is pretty much totally sedated. His breathing is becoming very labored and Jacqueline (his wife) has gathered all the children to his bedside.
Please just pray that he goes quickly and peacefully with his beloved family by his side as he enters the kingdom of heaven.
