For those of you who remember, we dropped off the stuff tonight. Two big boxes of food, and 5 reusable shopping bags with fresh fruit, vegetables, a turkey, a ham, and all things in between. We also bought 2 gifts each for each of the boys.
I cannot even begin to explain the joy and fulfillment I feel. We had meant to do this for years, and finally were able to work it out. We had received a single mom with two boys. Our Minister will be taking the food to her tonight, and though she has no idea who we are, or vice versa, I just feel like this is what the whole holiday is all about. :)

That's so wonderful Jamie!!
Our company adopted 3 families this year and we donated money for things to be bought for them. Food, clothes, toys, etc. I think it feels extra good to do something nice during Christmas, doesn't it?

thanks for doing that! we actually had a family sponsor us last year. DH still didnt have all his VA and SS financial stuff in order and money was extremely tight. so one of his doctors at the VA got us sponsored. they gave us gift cards to a gas station, a grocery store, KB Toys, and came by on Christmas Eve and had a few gifts each for the kids. we were grateful. while we were able to scrounge up a little money for the kids, Christmas last year could have been not so fun. so i know, that while in a way, no one likes to be in that situation where you need help (atleast i was, lol) it was appreciated! So kudos to you, my friend!
we are doing much better now, thank God.

awwww!! jamie! doesn't that just feel wonderful to play such a direct role in helping someone out! this year we adopted a single mom and her two little ones, who are 2 and 4! i cannot wait to drop off all the goodies next week and see their faces light up!! even though this year has been a tough one for us, there are so many out there who truly have nothing. i love to be a helper. :D

My friend at work adopted a family that she found out about through her church. The grandmother goes to the same church and has been trying to help support her daughter-in-law and 5 grandchildren, who suddenly fell on very hard times this last year. The mom has been working 2 jobs just to keep the kids in their Christian school and put food on the table and she has barely been able to do that. So we each took one of the kids and bought them a few things - I took the 14-year-old and I got her an I-tunes gift certificate which I put in a pretty wood and metal trinket box and my mom got her a basketball (which the girl is into), but others pitched in - one person even got them all sorts of supplies for the house - paper towels, TP, etc.
It really makes me feel good to give to people who are less fortunate, to make someone's world just a little brighter even it is for just one day. I wish I could be a fly on the wall when they see all the things that people have put together for them and know that the world really does care what happens to them.

that's AWESOME!
My family used to receive those kinds of things for years... and once we were doing well enough, we started doing it for other families. I'd love to do that with our own little family now. It feels so good.

Thanks guys, and to be honest, I just picked up a few extra groceries each time I went out for the past couple of months, and I barely even noticed the difference. It feels really good, and I know the kids feel fantastic. I hope that frees up some money for her to do something for herself or to get that special gift for them that she wanted.

How awesome that you were able to do that! Someday I would like to do this too - when the kids stop sucking my pocketbook dry.
Kudos to you!!!

Thats wonderful Jamie. I agree, thats what Christmas is about! Our grocery store has a drop off bin at the exit, so its easy to pick up a few extra things each time I'm shopping and drop them in.

I know exactly what you mean. It is a blessing to be in a position to be able to help others.
I have had others do things for me in the past (not on that level, but even anything is appreciated when you need it) and I am always so happy to help someone else.
