It's been a rough day or two, and I just wanted to thank you all so much for the kind words and virtual hugs.

I spoke with the vet again tonight, and after looking over Tiger's file again, she thinks it's probably better to start treatment. It's only $27 for the antibiotics for the month, so there's no reason not to. I just had to talk it over with Jordan before I made any decisions. Back in the spring/early summer Tiger was limping randomly. We spent a good chunk o' change on xrays to see if it was arthritis ($500 later, it wasn't). Looking back, that COULD have been a flare up of Lyme Disease, as one of the main symptoms is lameness, and that lameness can sometimes switch legs. I brought her to vet right away after we saw the bite on her about 1.5 years ago (the tick was gone before we saw it, so we didn't think it had been on for very long, and it takes like 12 hours for it to be transferred from the tick to the animal). She tested negative when we brought her in, and they don't do treatment until a positive testing. Nothing came up at her annual appt last year (about 6 months after the bite) and I had pretty much forgotten about it until the vet said she tested positive.

Anyway, I'm rambling again. We're starting her Lyme treatments on monday (1 month of antibiotics, 3 pills once a day). So, it's going to work out just fine. It won't completely irradicate the disease, but it makes me feel alot better to be proactive about the treatment. We'll just have to keep this more on the forefront of our thoughts from now on. Any lameness could be a flair up, and she'll have to get to the vets asap for treatment. But, she's just her normal happy go lucky self at the moment, so it's more for preventative purposes.

I'm still down about losing my friend, but, she's not coming back. I just have to deal the best I can, and kinda move on. I'm going to print and frame the LO I'm working on, and display it near my desk. That way I can't really be caught off guard by the sadness again. She's always with me in my heart, and nothing can change that.

So, again, thank you. I love this community so much more than these words could ever express. You guys are the best, I  you!!

She's totally fine La. I took her to the vet today for her yearly check up, and the heart worm test showed Lyme Disease (they test for a bunch of stuff at once). I had posted about it in my other sad thread. Like I said, she's her normally happy go lucky crazy self, and not showing any symptoms right now. I'll jsut feel better to get a round of treatment into her as a preventative at this point. I was just really upset about it earlier when I thought it was going to be a huge expensive thing. But it's not, so it's pretty much no big deal at this point, kwim?

Yea. It can take up to a year for the bacteria to even attack enough to show a positive test result. It usually attacks the joints, so if at any time in the future she starts limping or showing sensitivity like that, then she'll need to go into the vets and get another round of treatment. It never goes away, but it gets killed off enough to get rid of the symptoms for a while.

It didn't help that this guy in the waiting room came over to me after I said we'd wait on the treatment, and told me a story about his dog. His dog apparently got bit, never tested positive so they never gave treatment. Woke up one morning and the dog couldn't move his back legs. Took him to the vet and they kept him overnight and the next day all 4 legs were paralyzed. For most of the month during treatment the dog was almost fully paralyzed. The dog still limps (I saw that myself), and he says has never been the same. So that only freaked me out even more, lol.
