yesterday was Chloe's 6th birthday. i hate that its so close after Christmas. after the horrible week we had, i was just so worn out and not in the mood, so i just made her a cake with homemade vanilla buttercream frosting (which was SO good, i can't believe i made it, lol). i kinda felt bad it wasn't really a 'party' but i don't think she minded much. my mom came over in the morning with belated christmas gifts for the kids and her b-day gift, a hannah montana doll. then my MIL came over and took her to pick out a gift. then i took her later and gave her $20 to spend. she got a hannah montana wig (lol) and some barbie microphone, shoes, skirt and top, jewelry kit thing. i thought it was stupid and dumb but she insisted. so when we got home, she put on the wig and her outfit and little heels and pranced around the house singing hannah montana songs, lol. didnt get a pic, but i'm sure they'll be other chances.
the first day back at school on the 6th is her snack day for her belated birthday, so i'll make some cupcakes or something.

Corey, I'm sure that your daughter loved her Birthday cake, gifts, etc. even without the "traditional" party....Sounds like she had a fun time shopping and then dressing up....Can't wait to see pictures when she dresses up again....:)

Hey Corey, I gave up on the traditional birthday party 4 years ago. My twins had thier first party and then life went to hell. We have a tradition that you get to pick dinner on your birthday. So if you want pancakes, we do pancakes. If you want UNOS or Chillis or whatever, that is what we do. That is our thing. Then, family drops by with gifts when they have time. It makes the whole birthday thing last a really long time. But I got so tired trying to get everyone together and not upset anyone. And it was just exausting. And my kids (all 5 of them) have never complained that they wanted a party.

that's what we did as kids too... I'm pretty sure that's what I am going to start doing next year. this year was totally lame!

when i was a kid, we had parties up until i think around 8 or 9. from then on out it was dinner of our choice and a gift or 2. and i was fine with that. that's probably what i'll end up doing with my kids. even when i do have 'parties' they aren't much; my MIL, my dad, my brother, occasionally my BIL. My mom and dad are divorced and my mom doesn't like to be around my dad (out of guilt i'm guessing lol) so she'd come on her own whenever. so it's not very fancy. now that Chloe is in school i'm afraid she's going to want to have her little friends over eventually and i'm so embarassed at my less than stellar, tiny house that i'm going to be forced to say no, lol.
