View Full Version : Do you know what your 'real' IQ is?

You don't have to tell me what it is...I was just curious if you actually knew what yours was.

If so, how do you know?

Is there like some kind of real validated test one can take?

I was tested in the fourth grade to see if I was eligible for the gifted class and they told my mom what it was. She accidentally let it slip when I was nearby. I was tested by a pshycologist I think. Gosh I was only about 8 or 9 at the time and that was actually kinda a scary thing LOL. I just didnt know what to expect when I went in there. Had to do all these wierd puzzles and read stories and stuff. Ive taken tests online and scored anywhere from 135 to 150 and when tested as a kid I scored 168

I went through the same thing for the gifted program here, but it was 3rd grade and I don't remember what they said mine was. I wish I could take one now to find out.

Never done one. Would be interesting. I do know my ACT score, but since most people take the SAT, its hard to compare.

Nope, but I'm pretty sure it's dropped a few (or a few dozen) points since I had kids. :D

I never trust the online ones, and they are always like 904849032849023890423 questions.

I have no idea. I was in the gifted and talented program as well, and in accelerated classes through high school. And now I'm a bridge engineer. So, I think I'm pretty smart :p

I don't know mine. I was tested as a child, but I don't know the score. As a result of the test, I was put in kindergarten one year early. I know you can find tests online, but I don't know how reliable they are (I thinks some are ploys to get you to become a paid member of their sites).

Yes, I know. I was tested several times through out grade/high school as part of a study my mom signed me up for when I started Kindergarten. I think they were trying to see if IQ goes up with knowledge or something like that. I saw my scores when they sent my mom a copy of some reports.

I know Andrew's IQ as well, his mom let it slip one night while we were talking. Andrew doesn't know it, but it's consistent with the scores he gets on the online tests. It's just barely lower than mine, just like the online tests. I routinely score 2-5 points higher than he does.

I have the boys' IQs too. I'm going to do my best to not share those scores with them.

Much higher than you'd think with me haaahaaaa. I'm kinda air headed so I myself find it hard to believe I was in the gifted programs in school and stuff. High IQ doesn't always equal common sense, well, in my case. :p I tested last at 158 in high school. I'm sure it's way lower than that now. Having kids sucks out a lot of brain cells

*shrug* I dunno.

My elementary school librarian told my mom that I was one of the smartest/highest IQ kids to ever come through their school, but that doesn't really mean much.

AMEN to that...I seriously think that childbirth kills brain cells.

I tested once in college, it was 120. Which is above average. So smarter than the average cat, but no flippin genius either. However...I'm pretty sure that a couple spring breaks, my 21st birthday, giving birth and a few head bonks on the floor have killed some cells!!!!

You a mechanical geer head? And for the record, bridges skeer the crud out of me. I think i must've fallen off one in a previous life, lol.

I was tested when I was 4 or 5 I think, and girls, that might as well be a hundred years ago :p I know what it was; that much I've not forgotten, lol.
But IQ tests are so subjective and there are at least three I think. They can also be very skewed.
Had there been accelerated programs when I was in school I'm sure I'd have been there, but there weren't. We did have advanced placement, which i got into. Does that count, lol?

I was never formally tested... though I'd LOVE to do it. I love the IQ tests online, just because they're fun, but the problem is I like to do those kind of puzzles, and once you figure out how to solve them, you can do them pretty quickly, even if they are slightly different. I always test online at about 140... but I'm sure my real score must be below that.... I always took the advanced and enriched classes through school, but I can be kinda airheaded and oblivious to what's going on around me! Oh yeah, and I totally agree about he kids thing. I think my kids stole half my brain!

Mmmmm, not really. I like knowing how things work, but I don't work on cars or things like that. I was obsessed with Lego's as a kid :)

Bridges are UBER safe. The factory of safety we build into those things is ridiculous. I could design buildings too, that's my main background, but I like bridge better. :)

No, but I'd love to know. Got any links for those online ones? :D

My dad is qualified for Mensa. I don't know if he's actually in it, or what, but I know he could be if he wanted.

See, intellectually, I know that :P. It's one of those irrational fears, combined with a fear of heights and deep water, that do me in, no matter HOW much I tell myself that, lol.
But wierdly enough, the Verazzano, with it's double decker set up, didn't bother me too much, long as we were in the inside lane, lol (but only on the lower deck).

Jeff (dh) qualified for Mensa in highschool and was a member for a while when we first dated and were married. I don't think he is anymore, though.

I don't know my IQ, but I think I'm just average. I mean, I'm not dumb or anything, but I don't think I'm exceptionally smart either.

i have no idea. i'd love to know though. i was in an advanced english class in high school, and the advanced reading groups when i was younger. Math, however is the total opposite. i hate it. i did pretty good when i took algebra but that was the highest i did; no geometry, trig, or calculus. i always did great in art (duh) english, literature, science and history.

In case anyone is interested here is a sample test for Mensa (kinda like a pre-test I guess). I took it and did pretty well but didnt answer like four or five because my husband was rushing me.

Wow, smart group we have here!

I don't know mine. I was in a gifted program in middle school and in honors/AP classes in high school, but they used standardized test scores rather than IQ tests to place us into those. I seem to test well--I scored almost double what some of my friends did on the SATs. (Either that or I didn't hang around with the brightest group in high school, LOL.) In spite of being book smart, I don't think I'm all that intellectually inclined and have gotten much less so since having kids.

Mine was higher than Tony's, which was surprising, but I can't remember the number. This was before kids, so I'd say I've lost a lot since then. I can't string a sentence together these days LOL

I don't remember what mine is (which means it no longer is whatever it was probably) :)

I was tested when I was 18 and a freshman in college because I was doing so hideously bad in math. Really hideously bad. I'd always done really bad in math because I "wasn't trying hard enough" or "paying enough attention". My math professor thought differently and asked me take a bunch of tests. One of the was an IQ test

Turns out I have a learning disability and a high IQ. Why nobody ever caught it in 12 years of relatively small classes is beyond me, but apparently because I was so good at other subjects it was just assumed I was slacking on the math

I have no idea, although I do know both my SAT and ACT scores. Tested better on the ACT.

My cousin has an IQ of around 180 (I think. . . he's considered a genius) but he lacks a lot of common sense.

I must have been tested in school as a child because I was in all the Upper Level/Aim High/Honors crap and as a young student, you don't just get placed in those classes.

The "real" IQ tests have a gazillion of questions too
The Average inteligence goes between 90 and 110 or 120.
Above that you are very smart and if you score 150 or more you are a genious
But as you said genious is not equal to sucess or common sense... LOL

I scored 132 in college, but I'm sure now I'm around 12... LOL

Plus once you made a test you can't do it again becaise is viced, so the points are not accurate
You need to do a new one
Ican't do on line test as those are in english and I think in spanish

I don't think I have ever had/known my real IQ...I have taken many online tests and they are always wicked low...like 80, hahaha.

LOL I can attest to losing brain cells, baby number four is a dangerous thing when I already seem to forget everything these days. Im kinda scared to even find out what that would be LOL

So, I went to the Mensa sight and started to take the pre test... Ummm, NOT! Jaime took over and ended up getting 25 of 30 correct!!! He's brilliant (must be where Riley gets it from). I'm seriously thinking of pushing him to take the real test cuz I know he'd get in. 'Good thing I was cute when he met me cuz he didn't marry me for my brains aparently. ROFL
