Anyone ever care for thier lil one w/pneumonia at home?

Mr. Mason has been sick on and off and being the mom of 6 I thought nothing of it till today I had to take him to the Dr's b/c he's been coughing so bad he throws up. I of course said I'll give him albuterol tx's and he'll be good, NOT. Come to find out he has pneumonia in his right side.

His Pulse Ox was really really low  the Dr gave em 2 tx's albuterol & steriod, right away, it was an hour later and he was still not good so the 3rd was w/oxygen and he improved and the doc told me he really wanted me to take him to the hospital but he was ok to go home and I could bring em home but I have to follow up tomorrow & take him back to the Dr or else I'll be in trouble . :(

I do have his antibiotic, tylenol & prednisone :blink:but he's so rhaspy & congested I feel like a bad mommy for not going to the hospital.

Benjamin has had it twice, not recently though. He was very little when he got it, and ran such high fevers, you could feel the heat coming off of his feet.

There wasn't much to do, only to monitor his breathing and to make sure the meds were given on time, every time. He wheezed so bad, it was so awful, and it really took at least 2 weeks before he was semi-normal.

Hope he feels better soon, and try not to feel to badly, I remember how bad I felt, but it's not your fault. I'm sure once he gets a couple of days of meds in, he'll feel better ((hugs))

Jamie, Thanks for positive words. :)
It's been like 5+ yrs since I can remember what it's like. Gio (my now 6yr old) had to be hospitalized for like a week when he was 6mths old
Mr.Mason had a high fever thurs, fri & sat . Sun and today it was lo grade.
I'm off to give him a treatment It's a must every 2 hours till tomorrow

Yes, it's been a long time for me too, but what I remember most is how high his fevers got, it was so scary.

Keep us updated! :)

I'd go to the hospital just for the fact that it would take some of the worry off yourself. Hope he gets better quick.

DS2 had pneumonia while I had bronchitis a couple years ago. They said since he was up & moving around that he didn't have to go to the hospital, even though he was miserable & wheezing. There wasn't much more tehy could do for him at the hospital they said, just monitor him more strictly. The doc felt people get better at home quicker in most situations. It took about 48 hours for the meds to make a dent in his symptoms

DH has it now & they said pretty much the same thing about the hospital to him. It again took about 48 hours for him to start feeling better. it's been 2 weeks and while the wheezing is gone he gets tired very easily still

I spent all day at the Dr's from 1 to like 4 ughhh Mr.Mason's Pulse-Ox was still really low even though his crackling wasn't as bad today but the Dr. wanted to monitor him at the office or the hospital I opted for the office
He's doing much better "yay" but he only wants to be glued to mommies hip,
I'm so drained and tired I've done nothing all day but tended to my lil guys every whim :) he wil continue his machine and meds and know my poor Ary seems to have taken a turn for the worst  She has a fever again and I'm waiting for her antibiotic for her ear infection to kick in, hopefully by tonite and it'll make her better for the morning:( I so don't like this part of the sickies :(

Don't feel bad Mary, I did that exact same thing with Miss Bekah Boo when she was little. I felt so bad afterwards, but the doctor reassured me and made me feel better about it.

How is Mr. Mason now?
