Have you heard about Pink Shirt Anti-Bullying Day (http://www.pinkshirtday.ca/) before? I just heard about it this a few months ago and I was thrilled to find out yesterday that my DD's school is participating today (even *I* have a pink shirt on today and for those of you who know me, I'm not a pink girly girl at all).

Here's an excerpt from the site explaining how Pink Shirt Day was started by two boys in Nova Scotia, Canada.

“David Shepherd, Travis Price and their teenage friends organized a high-school protest to wear pink in sympathy with a Grade 9 boy who was being bullied…[They] took a stand against bullying when they protested against the harassment of a new Grade 9 student by distributing pink T-shirts to all the boys in their school.

‘I learned that two people can come up with an idea, run with it, and it can do wonders,’ says Mr. Price, 17, who organized the pink protest. ‘Finally, someone stood up for a weaker kid.’

So Mr. Shepherd and some other headed off to a discount store and bought 50 pink tank tops. They sent out message to schoolmates that night, and the next morning they hauled the shirts to school in a plastic bag.

As they stood in the foyer handing out the shirts, the bullied boy walked in. His face spoke volumes. ‘It looked like a huge weight was lifted off his shoulders,’ Mr. Price recalled.

The bullies were never heard from again.”

So are any of your kids' schools participating today?

I think that it's SO cool! I haven't heard about it before, but my friend in Kelowna was just telling me about it! Apparently her boys' school is participating, too!

yup, I knew! I am wearing my pink shirt, and all three of my school kids headed out the door in pink!
Cody had to borrow pink from his girlfriend, but he proudly is wearing it (he loves pink, I can't help it - he even wanted to dye his hair pink for today, but we didn't have the funds). Jenna is head to toe pink today too. And Xander borrowed some of big sissy's pink shirts (short sleeve T and long sleeve T) and even some of her pink socks. hehehe

It's a big deal around here, I believe this is the second year they are doing it at the schools here. They've even been announcing it on local radio (along with all the freakin' snow warnings - stay off the highways messages).

I haven't heard about this. I'd love it if the boys' school was participating, but I don't think they are.
