Ok so I've been saving up for a new lens for a while now. I've hemmed and hawwed about what to get. Should I be good and get the lower end one, or should I wait and get the higher end one, or a totally different one, blah blah blah!
(seriously you can drive yourself nuts!)

But today after reading The Daily Digi, I found myself wandering over to ebay to take a peek around. And there in the chaos, I saw my lens. It is more money than the one I've saved up for, but from ebay it was waaaaay cheaper than buying new. Now I know, you take a risk getting it off of ebay but, from what I can tell the seller is a pro who has gone to full format and has taken very good care of his equipment.

So today I am the proud owner of a Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED Lens.

I really wanted that 2.8 aperature!!! I LOVE my 50mm 1.8 and with taking lots of pics inside our house, I really wanted something other than the standard 3.5.

Ok now all I have to do is tell DH!! I don't think he'll mind since I did have money saved for a lens but still it was a big purchase!

Oh and I got to use my 8% off coupon that ebay sent me so that was AFTER I won with my bid. Tee hee, love that!

Doing my happy dance!!!

Thanks guys! I just had to share with someone! At the end of the bidding I just kept clicking clicking clicking to refresh it to see if I won. Now I just have to wait a week until it delivers....ah the agony!

I will assume from the comments you did well, lol. I know nothing about lenses. I've used my little p&s kodak for a long time now and inherited a Canon sureshot S5IS from my dad that about all I know how to do with it is turn it on and take a shot, lol.

I LOVE getting new toys! Congrats!

I'm a bit confused though... your 50mm can shoot at 2.8. and 1.8. :)

Yes my 50mm can shoot at various f stops down to 1.8, but I was talking about a "zoom" type lens that has the lowest f stop (aperature) as 2.8 instead of the 3.5 that most zoom or multi-focal lenses have. See I have a Tamron 28-300 (it is almost 6 years old and no vibration reduction and a scratch so that is why I was looking for a new lens to begin with) and its aperature is 3.5-6.8 depending on the focal length (28mm or 60mm or 300mm etc), but THIS one has a aperature down to 2.8 which makes it take in more light and therefore less need of a flash.

Am I making this clear as mud with my partial knowledge of photography LOL! But yes my 50 does do various f stops. I have to remind myself to change it sometimes when I am trying to get both my boys in focus!
