View Full Version : Can you hear that?!

Neither can we!!!
WOOT! DH and I have spent the weekend (almost literally) putting in a new disposal and dishwasher. Our old disposal bit the dust a few years ago, and we thought we didn't want to replace it, but it's been causing problems, and because we hope to put a new sink/countertop in this summer, he didn't want to rebuild the sink bottom with new pipes, so we just put in a new one. The old dishwasher was literally not cleaning anything (in part to the disposal and in part to it being the cheapest thing we could afford way back when). So..the new one is running now, after a few mishaps, and we can barely hear it! WOOT!
Now we're gonna go crash.

oohh I'm so jealous..when we moved in our house last year the only appliance they had not replaced was the dishwasher and it's 16 years old and a RELIC...I'm actually hoping it will die so I can get a new on lol :)

I'm jealous as well....my kitchen opens to the family room and the dishwasher is SO LOUD it's almost impossible to watch TV! The normal wash button is broken, so we have to run each load on heavy wash....I'm counting the days until that button breaks, but knowing DH we'll just wash everything then on the pots and pans cycle...LOL!

LOL Penny -
Well, we're hearing absolutely nothing now :( In the middle of it's run, I thought it was done and fast! Then I opened it to see it still full of water, and realized it tripped the breaker. Now we have to take it all apart after emptying it to find out what's wrong. *sigh* Nothing EVER goes right when we do DIY LOL

Darcy, I have yet to hear what a dishwasher hears like we got one for our house when we moved in almost 2 yrs ago and we never installed it, it's in the hole but not plugged into anything, LOL
So sorry your stillhaving problems  so much for crashing :p
Penny my kitchen opens to our living room as well

Oh Darcy...I'm sorry to hear that it is giving you problems.
We upgraded our dishwasher last year to a very deep, quiet and quite expensive LG model. I wish I could say it is everything I ever wanted. It is quiet...SO QUIET, but it doesn't clean worth a darn, the bottom rack falls off of it's rollers all the time, and for some reason it runs for 3 hours!
I did get the performance plan, so I just need to call Best Buy and have them come out some time. I'm just lazy!

So weird, my reply didn't come through.
We finally got it working - a twist cap was a little too big, and the wires jiggled loose as we were moving it into place and during the first part of the cycle, burning through the cap and tripping the breaker. At least it did that and didn't catch everything on fire like in days past!
So we're back to a quiet-ish dishwasher that's actually gonna clean my dishes - I have faith! LOL Our kitchen opens up to our living room as well, so the dishwasher was always a noisemaker.

I thought maybe you were talking about my garbage disposal when you asked if we can hear that...
My disposal can be heard all over the house...it sounds like some big piece of machinery grinding...and any water droplets in the bottom of the sink start hopping! I keep asking dh to replace it...but no...and of course it isn't grinding up food or anything...so the sink keeps stopping up. Sigh.
Glad you are all fixed up!

Sharon - that's what ours kept doing, and then it became an issue where we couldn't get it to clean out at all, and I was having to unclog the sink almost daily. new disposals are about $70, and my not so great at plumbing husband (self admitted), did it in just about an hour. And we did upgrade this time and got a bit more expensive one that is so quiet I thought it wasn't working because it sounded just like our old when once it broke. The other thing I did was use some mesh stoppers in the sink to help collect any particles before they went down the drain. I don't know if you're using those, but that helped some.

Yay Darcy!!
A few moves ago the house we rented the dishwasher started leaking and so they HAD to replace it, and I vowed after that to always have a "modern" dishwasher. They clean soooooooo much better and are so much quieter. It is like "ahhhhhhhhhh" in the kitchen!
