Where I live (near Orlando,FL) there has been ALOT of robberies of pharmacies. When they are robbed the people are looking for pain medications. Well unfortunately this has effected those who are taking the medications for a legetimate reason. At the end of February there had already been a dozen of these robberies in this area (basically in three counties including the one I live in). For all of last year there were only like 35 total which is still alot but not nearly as bad as this year is starting out at. I was wondering though is this a localized problem or do you hear about this alot where you live also? I just think it is totally crazy. My husband takes medication for his back and he actually needs it for pain but because of this he cannot get the medication he needs.

No, people here don't do that.
They make their own meth labs, they don't need to knock over pharmacies.
Missouri has the highest rate of meth lab activity in the country.

Jessica, I just read an article online from one of our local newspapers in which a guy robbed a CVS Pharmacy....He stole pain medication....This is the first that I have heard of it in our area, but it doesn't mean it isn't happening more often than I know....How sad for those who truly need their pain medication, like your husband, to have to suffer and not be able to get it....

yea we have that here too but it seems lately that the pain meds from pharmacies are worse right now. Of course the stuff they need to make meth is no longer as readily available as it is now locked up behind the pharmacy counter and you have to sign for it when you buy it so that could explain it. I dont know it is just crazy to me but it never really occurred to me that it would effect the availability for those people who legetimately need itNo, people here don't do that.

I haven't heard of that around here. I don't think it's that common here, but the town I live near is one of the safest in the country too...Not that it matters, my dad gets his meds from Canada...as sketchy as it is, the meds he takes aren't covered by insurance. Since he gets his from there, the medication I have to take comes from there too....which was ordered like 2 weeks ago and it never came. AH.

We haven't had that much around here but they might need it for legitimate reasons too, with all the people getting laid off, on the street nowadays...who knows? Craziness!

Yep I know what you mean. I live in one of the highest producing counties ( just looked on a chart). How sad. Years ago I heard that Warsaw was the highest rate of labs. I used to live there. I know the town I live in now is not the greatest either. You hear about labs being busted all the time. Makes it so hard for buying cold medicine when you really need it.

do you guys not have the cold meds locked up behind the pharmacy counter? When they did that here it seemed like meth labs kinda slowed down alot.Yep I know what you mean. I've heard of it happening around here a little bit. But Northern Colorado is a far cry from Orlando, FL. We have quite a few meth labs around here.

yeah, that slowed it down a little. I think the major thing that locking up the cold meds did was keep the kids from getting access to it. The meth lab people need that stuff in bulk, so they get it via online pharmacies or from across the border.

thats true they might need it for legetimate reasons but they arent going about it in a legetimate way is kinda what I meant. we pay out of pocket for those medications every month for my husband. Hopefully he wont need it soon though because he is now going for an operation to try to help fix his back but until then I really hope they get it figured out because I really hate seeing him in so much pain everydayWe haven't had that much around here but they might need it for legitimate reasons too, with all the people getting laid off, on the street nowadays...who knows? Yep they are locked up but that doesn't stop them. They find their ways. I had my purse stolen once. A credit card showed up in a town 30 minutes from where the purse was stolen. I asked about this and the cop said that sometimes people will go to the little towns and get what they can get and trade with the people who make.

Actually, locking up the meth lab stuff seems to have worked pretty well here -- meth production was way down last year. I haven't heard of people robbing pharmacies here, at least not yet . . .
