anyone ever dealt with this? I've been having pain in my left leg for a couple of weeks now..I talked to the doc about it when I went in for my back the other day and she said it did not sound like a blood clot or anything b/c it's mostly my upper back thigh and butt and then radiates down the back of my leg all the way to my foot. She said more than likely it's sciatica and there's not much to do for it. Well that's encouraging :cursing: She said I could take the pain meds she prescribed for my back, but I don't like to take stuff with me here alone with the kids and now that my back's better. Just wondering if there are any kinds of stretches or anything that might help with this?..maybe not since it's a nerve? all I know is it's very aggravating!

My husband has that alot. They were talking about some kind of surgery because his comes from a herniated disk. It was a laser surgery and outpatient procedure so it wasnt invasive but the doctor he was seeing didnt think it would really help him because his back is just so bad. When he was seeing his doctor I went with him and they told him that alot of that pain comes from sitting for long periods. His pain did get worse when he was sitting down like in the car. So maybe stretching and not sitting for long periods might help you? Also have you had an MRI done? You might have damaged disks which is causing the pain from pressing on a nerve. That is where my husbands pain is from. He has like 8 herniated and bulging disks in his back/neck.

Chiropractor. My mom has always suffered from horrible sciatica, her chiro appointments where the only thing that helped her. Then they found that the root of her sciatica came from a herniated disk, so she was treated for that and hasn't had problems since.

I had trouble with it when I was pregnant but not sincee then. I remember that they didn't do much for it then. You might try shooting a PM to Jen Tapler here... she's a physical therapist IRL, so maybe she has some advice?

Mark's was off work with this until recently since he works in a hospital they sorted out for him to see the occupational therapist and she gave him a load of exercises to do to help the doctor gave him some painkillers as well. Maybe you could ask for a referral to a physiotherapist? (((hugs))) pain always sucks but its so much harder when you have little ones to take care of. Hugs Crystal xx

my mom suffered from sciatica after a fall and her doc put her on high dose pain pills...which just made her loopy  and didn't help with the pain...so then she went to an acupuncturist which helped a tad...but since I work in the medical profession I FINALLY convinced her to go to a specialist and he put her on oral steriods for 3 days and the pain was gone...just keep buggin your doc or go to someone else if the pain persists... you know your body better than they do~! hugs and feel better soon~!

Yep! It's horribly painful at times. The only thing that worked for me was to have accupuncture. I also had chiropractic treatment done, but my chiropracter was also my accupuncturist. He started the therapy...it took several months of treatments and the last one had to be using different metals for the needles, and then wrapping them all together with a wire. I can't even begin to tell you what I experieced. I could feel it pulsing throughout my body and after about 45 minutes it was all gone, and I haven't had any problems with it again, and that's been about 15 years.

Thanks for the suggestions...it does feel worse when I'm sitting...which maybe means I shouldn't be sitting here as much lol...

I guess right now it's bearable and hopefully will work itself out eventually...if not I will be going back to the doc and see what can be done if anything.

Ouch! That's all I have to say!

I have this too and my whole leg will go numb, but achy.

If you sit straight up on a chair or a couch, somewhere comfortable and bring one foot (ankle) up and rest it on the opposite knee. Now lean over and try to hold it for 30 seconds per side (you're going to have to do both). Try to repeat as often as you can and yes, it hurts!

Also, get yourself a tennis ball. Lay flat on the floor and put it underneath your butt cheek, where it's most tender. Hold it there as long as you can stand, or until the tenderness seems to go away. Repeat on the other side and again, as often as you can.

This is all I can suggest, other than going to a chiropractor/physio or massage.

You might want to look into degenerative disc disease. It's not as bad as it sounds or even a disease, really, but something that happens as you age. From the reading I did, there are lots of 20 and 30 yos that have this condition and go undiagnosed. If this is what you have, though, there is a 'good' outcome: eventually, the pain will lessen and then go away as the spine heals itself. It will just take you awhile to get to that point and hurt like a mutha. DDD is definitely exacerbated by long periods of sitting (digital scrapping, anyone?), so you might want to try lying down for a little bit if the pain gets really bad.

HTH!

Chiropractic care and physical therapy help mine. Mine flares up every now and then. I should look into acupuncture....

I had it but mine is related to a herniated disc (had surgery when I was 21) . . . still flares up from time to time. Stretching always helps . . . sorry I couldn't be of more help. Big hugs and hope you feel better soon!
