Am I allowed to used items from kits for use in a printed project for a school, i.e. yearbook, calendar, and other things that are sold, but not for profit? Any profits would be used by the school as donations. Is this something that is determined by each designer?

I found this in the TOU: YOU MAY create layouts or other craft items for individual clients to be delivered to the client in printed or flattened .jpg form without asking permission or purchasing an additional license.

But I wasn't sure if that applied in this case since it could mean many clients.

Right now I'm not in charge of anything like this, but I've already been asked to do something next year. I did the yearbook for 5 years for our elementary school and once we went digital I always created my own backgrounds. But the first year I did cut/paste and used scrapbook paper, so I wondered if using kits digitally would be kind of the same thing.

I would contact the individual designer whose work you want to use and ask them.

I don't believe that is covered in the general SSD TOU. The "individual clients" part definitely means not mass-produced like a yearbook. Each designer might have a different perspective on that, so you'd have to contact each designer. Good luck! That is cool that you make the yearbook! Doing it by hand must have been quite incredible!

Mary, it's definitely an individual designer thing, but as a former yearbook mom myself, I have a soft spot for anyone tackling that project. LOL! Plus, I realize that these schools don't make a profit at all (we were always lucky to break even on ours). So for those reasons, I'm personally fine with my stuff being used in a yearbook situation. :)

Thanks all - I appreciate the responses! Libby - THANK YOU!!! I would have asked you anyway, but it's good to know I can use your stuff. :) I'll contact you personally if I end up doing something.

And yeah, we've actually lost money on the yearbook since we try to keep the cost down for parents.
