If you came across someone with the last name Knorr how would you pronounce it? Would you leave the k silent like in knit or knight or know or pronounce it like ka-nore? I cannot count the amount of people who tell me that the K is not silent LOL Ohhh or like when I went into vote this year I even spelled my name for the lady and she kept looking in the "n's" I kept telling her no it is under K!! I had to spell it like three or four times LOL

I actually know that a lot of people who's name begins with Kn pronounce the K, probably cause of all the idiots you run into. lol My maiden name is actually 2 first names put together, yet people canNOT get it right. I have even said its like (these 2 first names, put together) and they look at me like I have 2 heads. People are dumb when it comes to names.

Definitely Knorr, like the soup and dip mixes (http://knorr.com/noflashcontent/index.html).

I'll admit, our last name isn't the easiest to say, but how people get schwing and Schwartz out of Schweiss--I will never understand.

I used to live upstairs from a guy whose last name was Putz, only he said it Pootz. Seriously...not much better. He took his wife's name when they married. LOL!

I totally understand the frustration, as my last name is routinely mangled, but many last names beginning with Kn do not have a silent K. In fact, I do believe the correct pronunciation of Knorr as far as the soup company goes is not a silent K. The company was German in origin and they pronounce the K: http://forvo.com/word/knorr/
I know my parents, who grew up with German being spoken around them by their grandparents pronounced it "ka-norr."

It's just one of those things. The history/origins of names and words leads to so many variations. The constant mispronunciation and misspelling of my name gives me endless amusement. I mean, seriously, it's Esau, like in the bible, yet apparently it's just way too many vowels in one place for most people. I get Ess-sow, Ess-soo or, my all time favourite, Ess-sow-oooooo. The spellings are hilarious... I can just see their wheels turning... must*add*more*consonants!! I flew home from England with a name that, I kid you not, had no vowels left in it by the time it made it from the travel agency to the airline to the check-in line at Heathrow. They weren't going to let me go home because it didn't remotely match my passport, but tears and explaining my name woes won them over (this was looooooong before 9/11!)

Definitely nor. I get people butching my last name too (makes me wish I kept my maiden name sometimes, lol).

Darn Germans!

My married name is Luepke.

Lip-key. :glare:

My favorite hacking of all time is luh-EEP-kuh... Loop-key is the most common hacking.

DH's ancestors were a-holes. *shrug*

That's funny! I'd say "Nor".. I also get that crap... myt las name is Schock (original username eh?) and I constantly get called "Schrock" or "Shook"...

Why does SCH- make sense in names like Schneider, but SCH-OCK is tough? It's pronounced "shock"... as in electric baby! LOL!:)

Knorr is german in its origin so maybe originally it was pronounced like that or it is pronounced by german people like that? My maiden name is german and my mom's maiden name is german also

LOL! Someone once told me that they said my last name as Sk-wees because the Sch part made them think of the word school. I guess there's some logic in that. Faulty logic--but logic nonetheless.

My sons teacher's last name was Gustafson. Alot of people could not say her name so they called her Mrs. Gus. Of course that last name is the name of a large dairy farmer in our area so I dont think its all that hard to say. If Im not sure I would ask how they pronounce it.

we have an irish last name that does NOT start with "Mc" but for some reason people decide it does anyway. i seriously don't get how you can look at someone else's name and just add your own letters because you feel like it. :D it's really not that hard to pronounce, people just don't try. :p

if we have to give our last name at restaurants or something, we'll just say smith. easier, right? yep, except one time we ordered pizza and the guy asked me how to spell it. i said, "smi-ith" verrry slowly. and i don't want to know what he did to our pizza after that. :D

Being in Holland and having a food brand by that name here we would pronounce the k sound...the Dutch are kinda funny that way...DH laughs at me all the time because the dutch type of hotdog is called knackworst...and I, being a silly american, always say it without the k sound when in fact it should have it.

i would pronounce it with a silent K.

and how the heck do you mis pronounce Lauren?? :D

Our last name is Monroe and we usually have to spell it for people. its not hard, lol. My maiden name was Rowan and i had the same problem with people saying it wrong or not knowing how to spell it.

but then again, i'm a spelling snob so i get annoyed easily when it comes to words, lol.
