So what do you consider sophisticated? I've got a puff pastry chicken recipe that looks complicated and sophisticated--but if you can roll out dough and braid--you're aces.

Puffed Chicken Alouette (http://www.virtualcities.com/ons/tx/h/txh46015.htm)

It's quite tasty! A friend of mine mixes the cheese with either peas or another veggie for an almost all in one meal. I like to serve this one with rice and a salad usually.

marinated steak with blue cheese-butter (http://freezerchicks.blogspot.com/2007/11/marinated-steak-with-blue-cheese-butter.html) (good with or without the butter!) This may not LOOK really fancy but if you get a good cut for your steak and let it marinate forever, I promise that this is soooooooo yummy!!!

It's great with Strawberry-Apple Salsa Salad (http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/recipes/strawberry-apple-salsa-salad-53334.aspx)

Could I pass you the recipe of 'Brazilian Lemonade'? Do you know that already? It's easy to do and delicious. I think it's a very different way to make lemonade from yours, i don't know, and by different I mean weird LOL, but I sure you that's absolutely fantastic, specially for summer time. I.miss.my.lemonade :p

I hope I can translate this right. LOL Here I go:
Serves 4. But you better be ready to do more :)

4 limes
1 cup of sugar
6 cups of cold water
6 table spoons of sweetened condensed milk (What?!? Yes, just wait for it... LOL) - - I googled it! hehee
LOTS OF ICE.

You need to wash carefully the limes b/c you'll use it with the peel (What?!? Shhhh! LOL). Here in Brazil we wash these kind of things, fruits, some vegetables, even our hands with coconut bar soap. We use it in the kitchen and laundry a lot. :) I think you can use some hand soap and you'll be fine)
Cut the limes in slices
Mix the water with the sugar
Put half of the lime and half of the water (which you already mixed with the sugar) on your blender and pulse (like a 7 times...)
Use a fine strainer (I needed to goggle this) over a pitcher (and this too) and use a spoon to press the liquid.
Repeat with the another half of limes and water.
Mix it all and add the sweetened condensed milk.

You need to serve immediately over lots of ice. This doesn't keep well, b/c the lime turns bitter. If this turned bitter, just add more sugar and/or a little more sweetened condensed milk.

This is GREAT for summer time! Children here like this a lot!
In another opportunity I can teach you to make caipirinhas (lit'rally means "lil' country girls") - the most famous drink of Brazil - to adults only. :p

I think the most interesting part of the Brazilian Lemonade is that there's no lemon in it at all! ;)

Lemon/lime...whatever. It sounds delicious!! I think I'll be trying that soon too!

LOL
I hope you can do this and enjoy b/c it's reaaally good and refreshing on a summer day. Oh, and you can put some rum - to adults - if this is your thing (I know it's mine...) LOL.
This is for who likes citrus things. And don't pulse too much b/c the white part of the peel is the thing that makes it bitter. So, more pulsing, more bitter it will be.
I'm wondering... if you feel like this is too sweet, you always can use a little less sugar.

Well, let me TRY to explain LOL
Here in Brazil we don't have your lemon. We only have "limão". 'Limão' is your lime: the citric fruit with the green peel - but lit'rally Limão means Lemon in Portuguese.
So, our 'lemon' in fact is your lime.

We call this "Limonada" = Lemonade.

When I tell you Portuguese is difficult enough... :p

Super yummy, super quick, and since it's shrimp looks at least somewhat impressive. Just make sure you serve crusty bread with it. I'd add a green salad too.

Makes complete sense to me! I had mentioned the recipe to my husband and he explained that to me as well. He's not anywhere near fluent in Portuguese, but he remembers enough from the classes he took in college to be somewhat informative when the need arrives.

I always double this because the pasta always comes in 16 oz boxes, lol!

*Chicken and Bow Ties*
8oz bow tie pasta (farfalle)
1/8 tsp. red pepper
2 Tbs. olive oil
3/4 cup chicken broth
1 tsp. dried minced garlic
1/4 cup white wine
1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts cut up
1/2 cup whipping cream
1 tsp. dried basil
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese

*Cook pasta and drain
*Meanwhile, heat oil in a large skillet over med.-high heat. Add garlic and cook for 30 sec. Add chicken, basil, and red pepper. Cook and stir about 4 min. or until chicken is brown. Add broth and wine and bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Simmer uncovered about 10 min. or until chicken is tender and no longer pink.
*Stir in whipping cream and the Parmesan cheese; simmer for 2 min more. Stir pasta into chicken mixture and heat through

Voila! It's sooooo yummy! I like to serve it with bread. Sometimes I will make it in the morning if i am having guests and then I will transfer it to a baking dish and refrigerate until I am ready for dinner. Then I will top with some mozzarella or Parmesan cheese and bake it until its heated through. That turns out just as delicious.

I love to make this copy cat recipe of alfredo sauce (doesn't reheat well FYI). Serve with fettucine and grilled chicken . . . a fresh salad or steamed broccoli. Looks beautiful plated with the broccoli.

Here's the sauce: http://secretrecipes.blogspot.com/2006/10/olive-gardens-alfredo-sauce.html

Of course, boil your fettucine as desired, send your darling outside to grill the chicken, steam the broccoli or prepare your fresh salad and you're done!

Oh, and BTW, thanks to all those who have posted these fabulous recipes! And that lemonade sounds delish (but what isn't made better with a little sweetened condensed milk).

If you dare to do that, please, let me know what do you feel about it, k? :)

I'm liking the sound of Crystal's recipe...but how long does white cooking wine last? If I still have some in the pantry it has been opened and is prob 5 years old...does it age well? I'm thinking you all are going to laugh at me and tell me it is vinegar by now...or whatever it turns to.

Just check the bottle Sharon and see what it says. I know nothing about cooking wine, but I buy a new bottle regularly just in case, lol
