Why, why, WHYYYY do I ever offer to do scrapping projects for family?!?! Oh my word. I'm trying to get some pics from family for a project for my dad. My sister just asked me to snag them from facebook. I told her that wouldn't work. So she emailed them to me. And they're like 20 kb each. :cursing: This happens every time I do a project like this. I just wanna tear my hair out. WHAT is so hard to understand about wanting the FULL SIZE photos?!?!??!?! GAH!!!

I hate that. Tell them to attach as file, not a photo if they're using hotmail. And tell them not to send you ones they copied themselves from Facebook LOL

Hotmail used to have those 2 upload options, but now there's just one upload option. But yeah, I used to tell them that and yet people still don't get it. Last time I upgraded Hotmail, that change happened. Maybe my sis hasn't upgraded..... hmmmmm.....

I still have that option to do file or photo. Strange they would take it out, because that's a nuisance!

I hate that too. I did a prom page for my niece and my daughter was the one who asked her to send the photos full-sized and she had no idea what I meant by that

ETA:she told my daughter to copy then off myspace LOL she did send them but not full-sized. Big enough that I was able to enlarge them a little though

I need to send some full size photos I took last weekend to a sil...but my e-mail program won't handle these huge photos...suggestions as to the easiest way?

I feel for ya...luckily my family doesn't scrapbook or care about them...guess that is lucky?? At least I don't (knock on wood) get asked to do projects.

OMG, I know! Worse, my MIL will print off like 5x7 copies of the pics my SIL emails her, they're tiny and look HORRIBLE when printed...but she's like "oh, it's SUCH a great picture"...no, it's not, it looks like crap...the pic itself would be cute if you could actually see the detail!!

LOL!! My dad has an ancient 2 mp POS camera. I hate when I need pics from him. I've threatened on multiple occasions that I'm going to break his camera so he'll have to finally go buy a new one. ;)

Zip them up and upload them somewhere like Yousendit, 4shared, box.net or another file sharing site. Then send them the link to DL.

My sil and I do this all the time! I have her zip her files (I had to talk her through it the first time) and she sends them to me from sendspace. I make her layouts, and then I zip them up for her and send them so she can have them printed at her costco. It works great...

and LOL about the full sized ones! I'm still working with some relatives about this. I finally told one how to put the mouse over it and see the size, and I tell her the size it has to be, and then NOT to send anything lower than a certain size. I had to do it with my sil that I send layouts too as well. I put some web sized ones on her computer last time I was there so she could use them as her desktop, and she was going to go have them printed! YIKES!!!

I feel your pain!!!

I don't know how many times I've had to explain this kind of thing. Or when I share something in low res, how I specifically say...DO NOT PRINT THESE...they are web quality and will suck! Ask me for the full-size version for printing. They never listen.

Ok I have used 4shared before...doesn't seem like zipping the files really makes much difference in size...I was hoping there was some trick I didn't know about. Thanks.

It's not so much the difference in size, but then I only have to send one file. If I try to send photos without zipping the whole lot of them together, I have to load one at a time up to send. It won't let you send a whole folder unless it's been zipped. I've only used sendspace, but I'm sure it's the same.

With sendspace, I can send a file that is 300mb in size. Usually that's plenty big, unless I'm sending some of my raw files that I've edited in lightroom. Those files can be pretty big, and then I just break them into a few different files. I had to do this with all our Easter photos when we were visiting my parents. Everyone wanted copies, and I wasn't about to burn DVD's and send them to everyone. This was way easier!

Since they probably don't have anything fancier than Windows Photo Viewer if they are unaware about resolution, have them download Google Picasa.

It's free photo editing software (just the basics, but their automatic fix is actually decent), they can create an album, upload it, and then you have full ability to download their pictures at the size that their camera takes them.

I'm horrible at uploading pics for friends and family to see, but I love looking at the ones my brother sends me.

LMAO! My MIL has done the same. She actually printed photos of a screen capture once. The quality was horrific but she thought it looked great!!!

Lots of people don't get it at all. lol I get that problem all the time. I usually tell them to burn to a disk and mail me that. Works better then explaining you can't email me the photos.

omg, i go through that every single time I do a rak album for a friend...
i have just started to tell them to just give me the files that are "straight from the camera".

I made a card for my parents with a 3-inch square picture of each of my girls on it. As it was only a card, I printed it at home so it wasn't particularly great quality. They took the card to pieces (cheers, thanks for appreciating the effort!) then had the photos enlarged and framed. They look DREADFUL. And I don't know how many times I've told them that I'll get photos printed for them...

Still at least I know it's nothing personal as when they wanted an 8x10 picture, they printed it 4x6 on their rubbish little printer and had that enlarged as well. I'd already explained to them that they can take their memory card in to get the pictures printed.

I've given up trying to explain now, they're clearly not listening.

With us being of the technology age...it baffles us how no one else can understand what we deem as something so simple to understand...

...been there...done that...just as frustrated as you...

The wall in my Mom's office is filled with photos that she's printed off her computer (on 8.5 x 11 copy paper). These are ones that I've sent her, my sil's have sent her, etc...

It cracks me up...she loves them, but I cringe every time I see them!

I feel your pain. I told a friend that I'd edit a photo for her (she wants someone cloned out of an otherwise okay photo) and she can't figure out how to get the file off of her memory card, onto her computer, and email it to me. Really??? I guess when she gets pics printed she must just take the whole memory card in and print them as is? I'm constantly amazed.
